  1. Re: first really good inspection after install.

be careful because they may not take if the temps are to cold as well.
trottet seems to have plenty drawn comb and feed in and around his hives to be able to remove the feeder.
    i'm not sure that is...

    Re: D Coates Nuc box

the Coates nuc box is made of 1/2" ply. regular boxes are 3/4".
I don't think 1/2" ply is enough wood for wintering in. I use mine for the other 3 seasons.
  3. Re: first really good inspection after install.

    hey trottet1.
I'd pull the feeders. This spring the maple nectar flow has been better than any in recent memory, that's probably the nectar you see. In addition they have plenty of food in those 4...

Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow" - Flow Hive

I wonder if the frames will get produced and delivered.
I wonder if they do get produced and delivered if the honey will flow out of the spigot.

    Re: Overwintering medium nucs

I think this was directed at me, if not I'll give my 2cents worth anyway.
Don't underestimate the healthy colony part. That means strong winter bees free of a mite load from August until cluster...

    Re: Propolis Extract

I agree. the only way I've found to keep the propolis in soulution is to use clean propolis and 80% grain alcohol. I make a 1:3 tincture.
(guggul is another "tree gum" type product that also is hard...

Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow" - Flow Hive

Do you plan on using the invention of the century in your hives now that you have "tested" it?
Is it practical? as in ThePracticalBeekeeper?

    Re: Overwintering medium nucs

Late July to beginning of August. Beware of a summer dearth and robbing though. Some years I start them in a nuc yard and move them
to a winter yard beginning of November. They stay in NY all winter.

    Re: Propolis trap

If the 10 frame trap is going under a migratory top just let the ends overlap and don't cut it.
Maybe it will fit under a telescoping top if you use one of those, if so have you tried?

  24. Re: How Small a Hole in Mouse Guard Need to be?
