    Like you said, the only way to keep them out is to seal all holes.

    You could try filling the void with insulation and be sure to use silicon caulk.

    some wash out the area with a little bleach...

    Just me but I would have put the swarm into the 10 frame box, they are ready to start a new hive and can build comb overnight.
