Thanks for all the advice. I did check for new queen cells and did not see any sign of them. I released the queen by pulling the cork out of the other end. It took a few minutes but she crawled on...
What's the best way to release her? Pull the cork from the other end or make a larger hole in the candy? Maybe they will have her out before I check it this morning and it won't matter!
We split a hive 3 days ago, and installed a new queen into the split. I removed the cork and put a hole in the candy plug. I checked the hive today, there's still a lot of candy left. The...
Rusty- yes I mean capped brood. I went to a class and the guy called it chocolate brood, so thats what I called it. It makes it easy for my son to remember it that way.
I was planning on checking...
I attempted my first split today. I was able to locate my original queen( first time ever) and moved 5 frames(deeps) to my new box. 2 chocolate brood, 1 open brood, 1 honey, and 1 with pollen. Also...
I also enjoyed your class on making splits. I am going to make a split(my first ever) of my strongest hive if I can get a queen quick enough. Learned a lot from all of the sessions, and my son had...
Anybody going to the field day at Kelley's this weekend? This is my first year( beekeeping and attending field day) and I am looking forward to learning from a lot of beekeeping vets.
I was just thinking about posting a Maple Syrup question here, but I was beat to the punch! I am thinking about trying it out next winter. I live in Western KY, and we have several Amish farms that...
Well I took the plunge. I harvested 15 frames, and left the bees with one full medium super and the other half full but fully drawn out. They also have honey stored in the brood box. It was quite...

I have put out a wooden nuc, and a ten frame box. Both have a swarm lure I purchased. I will definitely check out the book. Thanks for all the info.
What is the best way to setup a bait hive? With frames, foundation, 10 frame box or nuc? Use any attractant or lure? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks, I did notice bees on the Dutch clover in the yard. Wasn't sure what if anything was blooming after that.
Will that meeting be at the extension office? I have been trying to get to a meeting, but haven't made one yet.
This is my first year wth bees, and have been very fortunate. I bought a complete hive from an chemical free beekeeper, and it is doing excellent. Already have 2 medium supers fully capped and a...
[ I'd also suggest you set up some bait hives with lemongrass lure. I've caught swarms most every year for the last five in my area. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I definitely do not need 50 swarms! I would like to get a couple to supplement the 2 colonies I have. Would like to have 4 hives going into winter.
