You may not have enough ventilation. Had that problem with a nuc-- moved them to reg box with screened bottom board ans fed them. Started laying immediately. I'm in DFW area.

Don't know, but could it be orientation flights...there a lot of bees in the air while that is going on.
Harry Vanderpool in Oregon had an interesting one a year or so ago. Think he does several hundred at a sitting. He was on the forum...you might search.
Think I would build his style if I ever...
You might want to see what he did to the bees that were there---poison, freeze??? might affect the worth of what you are pulling out of the wall.

I use a couple of short angle irons clamped on the mark at each end with vise grips. Then I hammer the sides down. Then form the other side. Then cut the
line of the side back to the end of the...
You could always put them in a 10 frame box with a follower (divider) board and save the move later by removing rhe divider board. It can be made from cardboard or thin ply attached to a frame. ...
From my limited experience, the sharp edges seem to work best. The bees started comb on the sharp edge of the top frame of some where the wooden strip was not sharpened. Rubbing the edge of the...
sounds like starvation
You can always make a follower board for your larger box and expand as the build up by just moving the follower board and adding frames. That would provide a less disturbing option.

I would be concerned about legalities if I planned on becoming Dr. Bee. I think the forum might get the response required to be able to teach us enough about it that we can educate friends and...

You could always try spreading DE around the hive. Not the kind used in swiming pool filters but the DE used by some in gardens etc for insect control. Have heard that works.
I may have started the missing finger discussion--I too have all my fingers and a router and table saw. I use the table saw with dado for the box joints and the router with a pattern bit and a jig...
I use a router and made a jig. slip the board in-once across with the router and if you are a purist- a couple of quick pokes at the rounded corners with a sharp chisel and you are done. using a...
glue it. i use titebond III. Quick to tack but a little more time to work. can wash it off before it dries, then water proof after.

I have one from Seth Thomas that looks exactly like that. It's been in the family more than a hundred years. (doesn't have the bee picture on the glass however) With care it still works. ...

as i recall the cost (with sipping wasn't that much more than a local store (which didn't have it and wouldn't order...
There is at least one supplier (can't rember who) that sells some sort of kit to do this. One argument is that you can work behind the entrance while really standing by the side of the hive,...

The dovetail joints that most beeks refer to are actually more accurately a box joint in that the pins and tails are not angled cuts. Using a home made jig and a router or dado, you can...

Take him mediums with starter strips or with small cell foundation (Dadant sells SC.). Let him shake you the equivalent of a package with a queen. Someone in the my club is starting bees in a...
You are aware that children 1 and under should not eat honey. Thinking of little brothers and sisters.
Had a reaction to a too large alergy shot, which i think is the same reaction. Had to walk a about hundred yards to the hospital. They loaded me up first with adrenalyn(sp) then benadryl. Was in...
John,
Cut a piece of 1/4" cheap ply the same size as the outside dimensions of your bee box. Use a 1 X 4 or 1 X anything and rip some 3/8 strips from it (or whatever thickness will give you...
