Re: What to do with all this honey?

Same problem here, split 2 hives into 4, but only 1 survived. Every time I add a frame with honey- robbing begins.

    Re: Feeding Honey Crazy robbing.

Will screened bottom boards contribute to robbing? I have SBB on that hive, I wonder if thats how the robbers smell it. Some people also use wet sheet on top of the whole hive, is that effective?

    Re: Coexisting with backyard hives

I can sit in 3 feet away from my hive entrance for as long as I want, once in a while a bee will fly around me and check me out. I actually mow my lawn right behind the hives, but try to do it fast....

    Re: Angry bees

I was wondering myself for a while about definition of calm bees. I have been a beekeeper for a year and have mild swelling at the site of stings, so I am very careful.

How long will a hive last?

I made my first split about a month an a half ago. Today inspecting a hive I found a lot of drone brood and could not find a queen.
Entrance traffic is very reasonable, but my question is.

    How...

You must have very docile chilled out bees. One of my hives is like that. The other one is more aggressive.

Not city anymore. But I made sure the only neighbor that sees the hives is ok with that.
Ants already attacked my hives once. Made my bees very angry and defensive.
