  1. Re: watched one of my hives go this morning

Maybe...but that is how they naturally reproduce, I would think it would be more of a genetic tendency of some lines to swarm more than others. But they will all swarm at some point.
  2. Re: watched one of my hives go this morning

    That is crazy!
  3. Re: watched one of my hives go this morning

    jw,

You took the queen and 7-8 lbs of bees into a new hive and they swarmed 5 weeks?

    Re: moldy syrup

I also put a cap full of bleach in my poultry waterers, it helps combat a lot of illness.
  5. Re: Make 15 year old help with sideline business?

We are a very spoiled lot I think.....but then again I grew up on a farm, not much time for anything but farming.

    Re: Marking a laying queen....

I'm really new to beekeeping but I marked 8 out of my 11 queens this year and they all were fine. I use Mr. Palmer's method of holding them. (WATCH THE VIDEO! )

    Re: Nucs or deeps?

If you are building your own you could also build mediums, if they have to draw comb it won't be as much or you could give them some medium frames with honey from your full size colonies.

    If...

    Re: Honey collecting

I picked up a "honey strainer bag" for about $5. It fits over a 5 gal bucket. I made a small, two frame extractor out of 5 gal buckets and just dump the cappings in the bag and let them sit over...

Re: How do you make honey be health

I think you can just add it directly to your honey, no need to feed it to the bees first. :lookout:
  13. Re: Question about adding a box with honey

Almost the entire hive is brood, except for 4 frames in the top box. That is why I want to give them more room, I also want to give them two deep brood boxes (they were in one deep before yesterday) ...

    Re: getting fearful

    FORD,

I wanted to do a similar thing when I started last year (put the bees in a new box at night). My friend wisley told me "the only thing worse than upset bees, are upset bees that you can't...

    Re: Asian Hornet In Florida.

With all of the Japanese hornet sightings has anyone ever heard of a colony being attacked here? It seems like honey bees are one of their main targets.

  17. Re: How to keep bees away from snowcone stand?

A fan blowing out the window should help, it may have to be a rather large one.

    Re: Split gone bad

Well if they didn't destroy all but 1-2 I would have. If you have 9-10 queen cells and more than one hatches you will end up having swarms that take part of your population. That would put you in a...

    Re: Brood chamber maintenance

I wouldn't think 3 years is "jumping right in and start rotating comb out". However the chemical contamination is not only what you may put in the hive, it is herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, ect...
