  4. Re: What to do with "poopy" frames from deadout

I would scrape the frame and reuse it if your dead out didn't have some disease. You are not going to scrap the rest of the hive just because of some poop are you?
  5. Re: Anyone using top entrance have moisture problem?

Go to the head of the class! Sounds simple enough that even I can understand. Thank you, o voice of reason!!
  6. Re: Anyone using top entrance have moisture problem?

    Re: First time build

The bees won't care and if I were you I wouldn't either. Now you know what to look for on your next build.
  9. Re: Anyone using top entrance have moisture problem?

I know I'm not very smart but dosen't this have to do with temperature equalization? If you set a sealed plastic gas can in the sun it will expand and build up pressure, when you open the vent air...

Re: Price for a rotted out hive with bees?

If you think you can get 6 or 8 hives from hives that are survivors than they are worth a lot more than a jar of honey. At the very least one would think each hive would be worth the price of a 3...

Re: Thermo hive, not for me.

Yes but so are many things we use, how about the extractor or the jars we put honey in ? If it ain't broke don't fix it may sound good but than we would have wooden wheels on our cars.

Re: Question on feeding neighboring bees.

SUZYQ had a plate with some syrup on it and some bees showed up. A plate,a plate for God sake not a tanker full, not 55 gal. drum full not even a 5gal. pail or a gal. not even a qt. unless it was a...

Re: Question on feeding neighboring bees.

I agree. Most here who condemn open feeding in spring have only been keeping bees for a few years. I think the more seasoned keeper would agree with you and I. Some times a little knowledge can be...

Re: Is this frame ok to reuse?

Lots of moisture in larva and bees, squash some and see. I don't think you get much mold without moisture.

Re: Question on feeding neighboring bees.

Vance, You never said what you did with the honey from dead outs. Posts #7,8,9,12 and 18 think open feeding sugar syrup is a really bad awful thing to do but you seem to agree with me that it's ok...

Re: Is this frame ok to reuse?

I'm with Mr. Bush on this, the bees will clean it up in jig time with no apparent ill effects. Bees like to be busy, gives them something to do in early spring. No worries. Remember what you think...

Re: Question on feeding neighboring bees.

What do you do with honey from dead outs? why is putting a saucer of sugar water out such a sin? Should we take our hummingbird and oriole feeders down? I don't think suzyq did any thing wrong, if...

I was a painter for 45 years and don't see any reason to treat a beehive any different than you would the siding on a house. Surface prep is the most important thing when it comes to painting. Clean...

    Re: smoker fuel

If you have access to dry cow pies give them a try. 30years ago I had dairy cows and thats all I used in my smoker. Had a nice smell, gave a cool smoke and there was never a shortage.
