    Re: New package making honey

Yes it can happen. My first 3 packages 3 years ago had one hive that produced 1 super of honey out of the 3. Last years I had a California package produce 2 supers for me by the fall.
    Is not that...

    Re: Pulling supers this weekend

I'm sure a lot of bee keepers would love to share the OP's lament. Too much honey.

I am in my third year of extracting and will sell out almost before I extract.

    This is where your...

Re: DIY simple easy to make hive frames

For the .75 each I currently pay, it is not worth my time to set up each piece of equipment to make all the cuts necessary to correctly shape a frame.

But I have no problem with someone else...

Re: Brush, fume board, or bee escape?

A bee escape put on late the day prior to removing. Then a bee brush to remove stragglers. I may use the blower idea this year as I have more supers to process.

    Time is Honey!

Re: Questions about brood and robbing

It has been my experience that the bees will adjust the volume of brood adjacent with a flow or no flow.

You could have been that the robbing had just started and you caught it in time. Putting on...

Re: When to add a super

I wait until they have 7 or 8 frames filled with either honey or capped honey and I am still amidst a nectar flow before I put on another super. If you keep adding on top of unfilled supers, they...

If you have the time and the skill I see nothing wrong with making your own SBB.

As I tell every one, "This is not a cheap hobby!"

    Re: Wet supers

I'd either leave it on and wait for the fall flow or take it off and store it properly(so as to avoid wax moths) and put them back on to catch the fall flow.

I usually leave mine on for a couple...

Re: 4th Of july fire works at my farm

Beautiful pics, what a treat for you. And I am sure the quiet there was more appreciated than the noise of man made fireworks.

I am one of the few in the world that do not care for fireworks.

Re: Thought this was worth a try

Interesting solution to a problem. Keep us posted on how it progresses.
The only problem I can see is the bees attaching wax to the hardware cloth.
  12. Re: Are my bees getting ready to mate or swarm?

Normal phenomenon of honey bees. Bee sure your hive is ventilated
  13. Re: Some bees drowned while cleaning up honey equipment

I did something similar with my uncapping tub last year. Left it out for the bees to clean up the cappings, and they couldn't find their way out and died by the hundreds.
    Learned my lesson on that...

    Re: Mold in Sugar water.

I personally would not feed moldy sugar water to my bees. I would toss it out.

You can add Honey B Healthy, vinegar, and I have heard lemon juice to your sugar water to help preserve it for...

  19. Re: Are these queen cells, and if yes, what are my options?

YHey are definitelt capped queen cells Like the question above, have you seen eggs or the queen? Those are in the area of a superseder cell and not swarm cells.
