    Re: Clipping queens?

I doubt they will march into a box next to the hive. They want to fly far away from mother hive to establish a new hive. They will fly for a while until they realize the queen is not with them, then...

Re: So what do I do next time?

The queen flies because she feels that bees are going to ball her. This happens when she is released prematurely. Happened to me many times.

Re: Why nuc and not a single brood box?

It all depends on the size of the colony. Large colony requires more stores and needs two boxes. For a small colony, sometimes referred as a nuc, requirements are less, so one box is enough.

How many supers did you give to each hive? I first give them one honey super and evaluate before giving another super otherwise you may end up with too much unfinished business.

    Re: queen cell ID

If it has been 11 days capped those cells do not have live queens. They looked like queen cells, but larvae may have failed to develop and died.

Re: Queenless Package arrived today- Help!!!

If the queen is not released from the cage, put a tape over candy end to delay release. Dump all bees into one hive and hang queen cage in the middle of the cluster. Remove tape a day or two later. ...

Re: Trying to save my hive

As they have queen cells, they are going to have queens. Locking them for a few days is ok but keep them in shade. I think your plan will work.
  12. Re: Installed 2 Overwintered Nucs Today, Need Advice

Sure you can split a five frame. This time of the year, you can even split a 4 frame. When you split 5 frame, make sure each split get a brood frame if they have. Then split bees evenly.
  13. Re: Installed 2 Overwintered Nucs Today, Need Advice

Open the hive hold the nuc box upside down. Tap hard on the bottom of nuc now facing up. All the bees will now fall to the hive. Brush off any remaining bees to the hive and close the hive. Any...

Re: orphanized hive and after swarms

You can have a swarm with just 2 cells. I would remove the extra cell and make a small nuc and let it hatch too. You can decide later what to do with it.

Re: How long can virgins be kept

They should be fine for 5 days (when mating flights start), a queenless colony will accept a virgin, just keep caged for 24 hours.

Re: Requeen a queenless and broodless hive

You can just hang the queen cage in the center of the cluster and let the bees release her. Why do you need a frame of brood?

Re: Feeding honey from dead hive to new packages?

If you have 2 deeps with frames, you can install 2 packages in them. Save medium frames for later use in a medium box. Putting medium frames in a deep box makes a real mess.

Re: 3 Three Pound Packages 2 Queen Install
