Re: East Central MS newbie questions

Meridian is kinda far from me, but I would do it in town. I have 8 hives located in town in a small suburb and they do amazing. Just call the local misquote foggers and tell them not to fog by your...

  3. Re: Cleaning up my first dead hive, why is the comb like this?

Picture one and two looks like robbing. You should see white comb flakes around the frames where they chewed through it like ravage dogs trying to get a hotdog.

    Re: gopro

I wouldn't suggest a GoPro for filming still shots. It is after all an "action camera". I have one which I do inspections with, but with the wide field of view on the camera and no zoom function,...

    Re: food grade buckets

The lowes in Gautier and Pascagoula carry food grade buckets. I know... I checked. Also Walmart gives me free 3 gallon buckets from the bakery, which are food grade.

Re: Wax to coat plastic foundation

I got some bulk wax from a member of the beekeeper association. That usually the best place to start. I bought 50lbs to coat topbars, plastic, and wife makes candles. If your just coating plastic the...
  7. Re: Unofficial World Record Honey Bee Capture

The commercial beekeeper lets them harvest the old bees that get left out before they ship out for pollination services. They close up the hives before shipping and what gets left out are old forager...

Join a local bee club if you can. We have 2 spinners that people borrow in our club.
  9. Re: Installing Pkg to a Medium Only Set-Up (10-Frame)? Also, any thoughts on Top-Feed

I really like the Brushy Mountain top feeder with floats. Only thing I've noticed is that sometimes the slots aren't the appropriate size and some bees drown. Its a simple fix. If you have leave the...
  10. Re: Photos of my partial sheet of foundation in deep frames -experiment

I only put the dowels on the top, to keep the foundation from shifting around and I added some wax on the dowels to help draw straight comb.

Went into the swarm today and seen some pretty straight...
  11. Re: Bees with Butt's in air at entrance **VIDEO** What are they doing?

Looks like fanning to me. Didn't see nasonov gland. Might be regulating temperature in the hive or moisture control duty.

Sticky: Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

Caught a swarm today 3/5/2015. Ocean Springs, MS. Had 3 days of 65+ degrees heat. Today a cold snap moved in, 35F, these bees lucky I saved them in time. Going to be using them on trying out Lauri...

Re: Rain barrel waters for bees

Speaking of this. I have some black plastic that you put out for weed control on a couple raised garden beds. The beds aren't leveled the best so when it rains, water fills the voids and leaves pools...
  16. Re: Photos of my partial sheet of foundation in deep frames -experiment

I wanted to see how the whole partial sheet of foundation works. So I plan on doing it this year with swarms. If I can ever get a call this year. Should yield some interesting results.

    Doing half...

I agree with the Honey Bee Healthy. Every time that I have used it, bees start to rob.

    Re: Bringing in Pollen Today

Same down here. Pollen is all over the cars down here right now, but most of it is pine pollen which has little nutrition value. Spring TiTi is in full effect around me. It was 72F today (2/8/2015)....
