    Re: Tiny black ants

They ants like a dark place to raise their brood. They don't like light, and I found this out when I placed an empty brood chamber on top of a hive when I was using a feeder jar. The brood chamber...

  3. Re: Do you examine your nucs before selling? What to look for?

I sell my nucs (local, feral, survivor stock) "face to face" (nothing big...onsey, twosies) with my customers and I always try to give them more than they pay for. I like to use three frames of...

Re: Paint pen to mark a queen?

    Yes...BUT:

Always make sure to blot the pen on something before touching it to the queen. I forgot to do that one time and when I touched the pen to the queen, a huge amount of paint oozed out...

  9. Re: Is anybody currently using apitherapy for arthritis?

I've placed the stings right on the joint of my finger, and yes...it swells incredibly stiff. The skin around of the finger also gets tight as a drum. But...a day or so later, the swelling goes...

Re: Beekeeping is a very cheap hobby

When anybody ever asks me "....Is there much money in beekeeping", I always tell them yes. It just flows the wrong way, though.

Joking aside, there is money to be made. It takes a little bit of...
  11. Is anybody currently using apitherapy for arthritis?

I've been a beekeeper for fifteen years and have taken the occasional sting to combat arthritis in my fingers. I'm making plans to begin a more scheduled, and intentional regimen this year.

Re: How to make wax foundation

That is one sweet machine, with some excellent engineering to boot.

It's amazing to think bees can do the very same thing on their own.
