Re: how to properly move a TB hive?

I'd do it in early morning; then put a few branches near your landing board. If you have no other hives drift will be nil.

    Re: extracting outdoors at night.

Maybe a screened type tent gazebo from one of the box stores; portable lighting also. good luck.
  3. Re: Any small scale honey producers ever worry about being sued?

Good suggestion Jean, for people to check. There are 2 types of policies to be concerned with: "Claims Made" and "Occurrence". In short the "Claims Made" is a policy that will provide you coverage...

    Re: Thank you Beesource

    X2 Good info John stated.

Pyro, I'm about 50 miles South of you. They will overwinter fine in a 5 over 5 in your location. If we get a great Goldenrod flow this fall, keep an eye on them for...
  7. Re: Anyone ever have an extreme abnormal reaction to a single sting?

Good time to say either don't wear rings or take them off as soon as you get hit in the hands.
  8. Re: Treating Japanese beetles without harming bees

They are real bad here this year. I use Dawn dishwash liquid mix 1:10 in a spray bottle on my cherrry trees. But the bees not on the trees when the beetles show up. Maybe target your garden plants...

    Re: Foundationless frame extraction

Matt, one thing you can try, although a bit messy if single handed. Is when you have frames not attached at the bottom, after decapping I use rubber bands to prevent blowouts. Works great.

    Re: Disaster, help with diagnosis

As you describe it sounds like SHB now as they are smaller like maggots (wax moth worms larger), also sounds like it was robbed out. Sometimes the bees just leave, no perfect answer to why but many...

Re: wax not bonding to plastic foundation

Did you freeze the plastic frames? The contraction will cause that type of delamination.

    Re: Starting Spring 2015!

Welcome in and good luck with your start. A good idea is to start with at least two hives; this will help you in many ways.

  22. Re: Bees stopped building comb in TBH--should I worry?

For a package started in a TBH your fine. I would not feed anymore at this time as there is plenty for them to gather. Building out 10 bars is good. Ditto on what Ray stated.
