    Re: Insurance

That is not quite true. A hobbyist can sell and even write off costs as long as those write offs dont exceed the profit. A business can write off even when making no profit.

Re: Some bees crawling in grass in front of hive

You might think of collecting 100 or so of the walkers and send a sample to the bee lab. I think it is free and a good way to check.

Re: My low budget honey house

Nice video, except I have to turn my TV on it's side to watch it in portrait mode. Almost fell over but got my wife and son to hold it up while I watched :)

    Re: My attmept at grafting

Well I had the same problem except I was supposed to be right on schedule. I opened up the finisher and found three capped cells had already hatched. One of those probably chews through at the side....

Re: My first year with 8 frame mediums

Yup. I use only 8 frame mediums. I over wintered one hive in 3 boxes, the other hive in 5 boxes. Both survived our long, cool, damp Pacific Northwest weather.

Well the moment I open my big fat mouth, I find something to contradict me. This person says he has good success introducing eggs/just hatched larvae into the cell starter:

    Re: Western Washington Beekeepers 2014

How's your honey harvest? I'm not expecting much ..only have two hives this year that I can rob, only one of those really produced much honey and it wasn't much. My other hives are all first year.

    Re: My attmept at grafting

I kinda figure the first time is going to be the most difficult ..just such a weird concept, grafting queens. Pack your cell builder with tons of nurse bees! From what I understand, you don't want...

    Re: My attmept at grafting

Was able to check today and move to the finisher hive. I seem to have gotten 8 or 9 out of 12 accepted by the bees. I'm very pleased with my first attempt.

    Re: Hop Guard II

I've used Hopguard I and it's good to use if you really need to when the supers are on and also as a winter treatment. The problem with it is that it only lasts as long as it is all gooey and sticky...

Why use a queen cell finisher?

I'm a noob at queen rearing - so sorry for the question.

I understand the need for a queen starter but why move them to a finisher? Can't the bees in the starter finish working with the queen...

Re: The 150 rule (heat plus humidity)

Love the nitril gloves after working in the hot sun. When done, just poke a hole at the end of a finger, squeeze, instant squirt gun.

    Re: Western Washington Beekeepers 2014

I've had two call, one that was for a cut-out (beyond my skills) and the other ended up being bumble bees in the attic. No real calls yet.
