    you are correct that is weird. but so is swarm cells that were reworked from normal cells as swarm cells are typically very deliberate. My guess is they started a supercedure got their queen...

    looking at the details closer, I stand corrected and think Thershey is correct. I missed the part there were still open cells.

    only 2 those sound like emergency cells, not sure when you put the apiguard in, but my guess is you killed her then.

    put them in a 5 over 5 nuc and feed the crap out of them, might as well use them to draw comb for you while they are in the mood. you can determine what you want to do with them in a few weeks...

    Who knows I put a link to an interactive map where people could pin swarms so we could see them progressing north and it was removed I sent admin a message and never got a response

    If true it could be because he bolts his homemade stands to the tree so it could have been in contact with the moisture that way. I mean trees will conduct electricity or lightning wouldn't hit them...

    FWIW I have a buddy that claims he peed on a hot wire from his tree stand and said it hurt like hell but I'm not sure if it was true or just a tall tale

    get a fence tester and find out. if not wrap some chicken wire around the tree and the offset hot wire above it to were they have to touch both and ground to the chicken wire

    If you can't show a profit for something like 3 yrs ( if I remember correctly) then the IRS will consider you a hobby and you won't be able to take deductions.

    I went in Bass Akwards my first yr my goal was to learn as much about bees as possible I made make splits, did cutouts, caught swarms and experiemented with foundationless and different hive...

    of course putting all that stuff together is probably more expensive than buying a hunk of aluminum and going down to the local fab shop and have them mill it. Do ya still have local fab shops...
