Hello!
So I had one of my hives die out this winter. I left the empty supers in my beeyard because the wife wasn't in a mood to have them in the house. I divided the honey up between my last two...
Yes, there is a top entrance directly above the feces. You can see the bottom edge of the entrance just below the green top cover.
I have the medication for nosema but if this IS nosema is it too late? I also have the issue of it being too dang cold right now at night to medicate, any liquid would freeze overnight.
Here is a picture.4036
Ok I'm not terribly concerned about this but I figured it wouldn't hurt to check with you guys. One of my hives has feces all over the front below the top entrance and I was wondering how normal this...
Hello!
So after having cold and wet weather for the last couple weeks we had a break today and two of my hives are out flying around but one has almost no activity (just the occasional single bee)....
Dawn as in the soap? Just a 50/50 mix and spray away?
Hello! We have some of our plants that were ravaged by white aphids this last year. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do about it that would be safe for bees? I had neem oil extract...
Not overly cold, but they can be pretty wet. I'm on the very top edge of California almost in Oregon.
So I have three hives, two with relatively equal levels of activity and one with a fair amount less activity at the door. I went through the hive and found very little brood, but I did see the queen...
Hello!
I was just wondering if there were any issues with me leaving the honey supers on through winter? I have two deeps and one medium that they have been working on and I was considering just...
I guess I was mostly thown off by the sudden increase in numbers in the wrong place. It had been improving from when I had moved the entrance and then suddenly regressed and there were more bees in...
Hello!
A few days ago I rotated one of my hives so that it would be in a better position to receive the sun on the entrance. Since then there have been a lot of bees at the old entrance. I assumed...
So I have a hive that is doing incredibly well and i would like to try to get a second hive out of it. Is there any way to do that safely at this time of the year or is that a pretty exclusively...
Hey quick question... How long after I've seen capped queen cells should I go in to see if she is laying/alive? I want to make sure I see a good active queen before the population drops too far but I...
So I'm wondering if maybe I put my second box on to early or something because they left 1-2 frames on each side of the box untouched and just started working on the new box. Any ideas?
Yeah my concern was that I might end up with the one survivor being injured. I also have only first year hives that I started in early may. Will there be enough drones around with only 2 month old...
So I noticed less than normal activity in one of my hives the last few days so I opened it up. I'm pretty sure the queen swarmed with a handful of bees (there are still 5-6 full frames worth of bees...
Well,
they were down to a frame and a half at most of bees without practically anything drawn out with nothing at all completely drawn. I searched twice for longer than I probably should have for a...
Because I'd also really like to get them all back into one box.
If that is the case, how soon can I get in there and get rid of the newspaper?
Yeah I was concerned about overheating. It is mid 70's to 80's during the afternoon here right now. How long until they get down and have access to ventilation? I have to go out of town for 5 days...
Well I tried a newspaper combine. Tomorrow afternoon I have to go out of town until Friday so I suppose I'll check back in on them then. I just hope the queenless hive isn't too aggravated for this...
Soooo
Somehow in one of my two package installations that ended up queenless I managed to leave the dead queen in her cage in the bottom of the hive that had killed her off. Without knowing this I...
Well I direct released her and it looks like it went well. About 10 or so bees surrounded her but it wasn't balling. I think they were just feeding her.
