I'm sure there is an answer somewhere on this board, but I tried a couple of searches and couldn't find it...

    Re: Beekeeping in Poland

Those must be some deep frames.....

A little off topic; I was looking at some old bee magazines, and in the June 2009 ABJ "Classroom" section, Jerry Hayes says, "Poland has a great system of...
  4. Re: Anyone know of beekeepers near Amsterdam, Netherlands?

Ted, thanks for the idea. I've actually been there several times, so I know all about the coffee shops. I just never thought about trying to find a local bee keeper. I'll give one of the shops a...
  5. Anyone know of beekeepers near Amsterdam, Netherlands?

I'm going to be in Amsterdam and was wondering if anyone knows of any beekeepers in the area that wouldn't mind a visitor.
  6. Re: clear medium frame honey display for restaurant etc.

When I was in Dubai, the hotel I was at had one similar to that at the breakfast buffet. Only there was an opening at the bottom of one side in the center and a square "bowl" that honey dripped...

    Newspaper combine

I'm getting ready to combine two hives and was wondering what do you do for an entrance for the top box when putting newspaper between the two.
  8. Got paint all over queen while attempting to mark her

I captured a swarm earlier this year and couldn't decide whether or not to combine it with one of my other hives. I finally decided to keep it on it's own.

Because I wasn't too concerned about...

    Re: BeeWeaver made good

I bought a queen from them this year, but it was not accepted. Had I not put a frame of brood from another hive into that hive for them to raise another queen, I probably would have lost it.

Re: Guess that was a waste of money

I pretty much had the same thing happen. Got a Bee Weaver queen that I was excited about. Thought I was queenless after a couple of weeks, but wasn't sure, so I put some brood in from another hive....

I had that stuff all over my field and was wondering what it was. Now I know. It's pretty much done blooming now and I never saw a single honey bee on it.

I read something like that as well. Only I thought it was 8 hours. Either way, they spend most of the day NOT working.

Re: How soon does swarm queen start laying?

Yeah, I think I'll give them 'til next week also. One of my other hives is really strong, so I should be able to take a frame from it with no problems (assuming I don't kill that queen...).

How soon does swarm queen start laying?

How long after hiving a swarm before the queen starts laying? I got one 8 days ago, and they have drawn out a good bit of comb, but almost all of it is being filled with nectar. I don't see any...

    Re: Feeding this weekend

I was wondering the same thing.
Supposed to be in the low 60s here tomorrow, and I was planning on putting some 2:1 in a boardman feeder so that I can easily remove it if it gets cold again.
