    Re: Black Sugar Syrup

I bought three barrels of scrap sugar a while ago that did the same thing. In the barrel it looked almost like some portions where oil/rubber stained? Even the clean sugar scooped from around darker...

    Re: Kelleys

I ordered 10 boxes with no handles cut in the end (so I can dado) from them to try. They quoted "over a month" I think I got them in just over 2 weeks (I can't remember). They look real nice, I...

    Re: Measuring Average Yield

Depends who the answers is for :)

If you want some one to understand you have to explain how you got your # per hive.

Re: To take honey or not first year package

If you want it take it. Extract it all and give the comb back to them to fill. If your fall flow is nonexistent or to weak for them to build up, feed them both at the same time to avoid robbing.

    Re: Robbing sucks....

If robbing is aweful sometimes it can help to pull the tops off the larger hives or even separate hive bodies/supers on the strong hives. This forces more bees to stay home.

    Re: Celebrity Beekeeper

He seems to be enjoying his start, I bet he would be more fun to work for than a lot of "real" beekeepers.

Whoa! That's not proven, my inspector was just here to take this years samples (early I might add), knew of no confirmed AHB in my immediate area and the few beekeepers that could be within flight...

    Re: Funny looking Queen

I think that's the problem AHB traits aren't noticeable in smaller/swarm sizes the traits show as they grow. This swarm wasn't aggressive and I didn't notice any drones.

    Maybe AmBeek will show up...

    Re: Funny looking Queen

I have loftier goals than mating Queens to head hive "that won't tear you a new one". I would have pinched her without the BMP guidelines or even if I lived in a different state. She just doesn't fit...

    Re: Funny looking Queen

It's amazing how hard she was to find, my eyes are not at all used to finding such a dark queen. I have standard Italian queens but nothing this dark.

    Re: Funny looking Queen

No she wasn't marked, I was going thru marking newly returned queens. The recommended Florida Best Management Practices is to requeen all swarms. I'm not interested in queens from an unknown source....

    Funny looking Queen

Actually beatiful, she came with a swarm that landed in my yard about a week ago.
I thought one of my Nuc's swarmed, now that I've got a look at her I doubt it.

The best way to insure a good strong flow is to be totally unprepared for it.
