    ISO 2016 OW Med nucs

    Hi all,
I am looking for 10 overwintered nucs for the 2016 season. I will be going into some canola next year and will need the nucs by the end of February in order to have enough time to get them...

    Re: Syrup proportions and comb

It seems logical to me that the thinner syrup would almost force them to draw comb. That syrup has to be put somewhere to be evaporated down into "sugar honey" so the bees need more storage space...

    Re: Trying the "snake oil"

Actually old timer that is not true. If someone were to say "hey I tried it, didn't work, don't waste your money" I would be like ok, I'll move on. On the other hand when someone is basically saying...

Yes, I believe all those things were advances in beekeeping. And did beekeeper a move over a million colonies to Cali for almonds on their diesel trucks and unload them with their hummer bee...

    Re: Trying the "snake oil"

First of all, thanks for being a complete jerk with your response I usually brag on fellow bee keepers on how helpful and friendly they are. You obviously didn't get that memo.
    Second, I've been...

    Trying the "snake oil"

So I am thinking about trying some caspian solution. Yes, I know it sounds like snake oil and maybe it is but the literature kind of makes sense to me. Has anyone on here actually used it? What were...

Re: Why don't I have Small Hive Beetles?

It sounds like it could be your management style and you bees themselves. Typically in strong, slightly crowded hives the bees harass the beetles so much they don't reproduce well. I usually find...

Re: A journey of my first Hogan trap out

It's now been a month since I started my trapout. The brood frame that i put in the trap really did the trick. The house bees came right out and started making queen cells on the frame. I pulled all...

    Re: top entrance

No, there is a gap between the boxes of about 3/4 inch. It violates bee space and thus the reason you have to use drawn frames. If they fell the need to build comb at all they will build in the space...

    Re: top entrance

If you ever read the pink pages of the late George Imirie, He recommends using his Imirie shim which has an entrance in between each honey super. The theory is since the bees dont have to cross over...

Re: A journey of my first Hogan trap out

It's been a little while since i have updated so i figured i would check in for those that are following along at home. Last week I obtained two drawn frames and put in the trap. If you remember i...

Congrats on the catch! You're in for an awesome journey. I'm not sure about how things are progressing in Oregon so take that into consideration but here in west Tn swarm season just started. If...

I have been out of the game for a couple years and i am curious. Does Keith Jarret sell smaller quantities of Nutra Bee or has he set up a distributor? With all the hype surrounding his sub i would...

    Re: Wintered over? Where?

It just means the nucs were made up last fall (or late summer) and sent down south to live for the winter. Many nuc suppliers make up nucs in the spring during build up instead of using "wintered...

Re: What is your "Regular Hive" setup?

Now that I am starting over, I will be all medium. I can lift a full deep but I don't want to. I may even take Michael Bush's advice and go to 8 frame medium.

If you read George Imiries pink pages where he talks about the shim, it's to be put above the first honey super of drawn comb and in between each additional super of drawn comb. He doesn't recommend...

  23. Re: Should catch boxes be 3 miles or more from home?

I would set up as many as you can in as many places as you can. Yes you'll lose some field bees in the ones close to home but that's ok. You'll also lose field bees if you move the trap during the...

Re: A journey of my first Hogan trap out - update

So I went and took a peek at the trap yesterday. When I first pulled up they were festooning on the top cover near the entrance. I slowly took the lid of and shook them in the trap. The bees did end...
