Re: Combining a Lang and TBH

Could just move the comb onto the top bars, secured with either hairclips (Ok method, but a PITA to reuse), Masking tape (make a cradle for the comb to sit in) or some of the bigger wire mesh. If its...

Re: How long can you hold package bees.

Not caged the whole week, probably released on day 3 of the install, but its been raining ALL week anytime there is daylight. Problem is, another week goes by before I know for sure if its a drone...

Re: Bees have made a home in my house

If you live where SHB are, enjoy that mess, cause thats what you'll have, a mess. You might be lucky with it not stinking up the place, but dont count on it. Honestly, post a CL add or go to your...

    Re: Absconding Packages?

Yeah, this is a big problem with new TBH beeks, I've noticed that just about every plan out there includes an open SBB on the theory that bees need that ventilation. However in my research I was...
  10. Re: I'm starting to think that black plastic frames and queen excluders are from sata

Somebody did a "study" on this and concluded that QE are also Honey excluders. The only time I'd think about using a QE is if I need to keep the queen to one area, and not for that long.
  11. Re: Foundationless Problem after installing bee boxes. Help!

As someone who is in his second season of beekeeping, and first year being a top bar with 0 foundation, Do not wait another day. Fix it now. Anything they loose now is much smaller than what you...

    Re: First Install, Flubbed It

Ouch, sounds like my install with Queen Abelia. I dropped queen cage, reached in to get it out, bees didnt like this. Got a couple stings for that.

I have honey (Yes, honey, not sugar water) all over my 2 week old hive. I know a few days after release it was difficult to see if she was laying, and she wasnt too big. My worries though are over as...

Re: First-Time Beekeeper, new package installed

Warm weather probably helps. I know in the morning there isnt much in the way of activity cause its still in the 50s, but once it warms up, yep, they are out and about foraging.

Re: Newbie Needs Help w/Hive Body Question

Oh without a doubt. The more packed in bees are, the better they are at keeping pests from becoming a problem in the hive. SHB are a problem here in the south, and I lost two frames of honey to them....

Re: my 1st year experience., my bees died now what.

Gus, as someone who is looking to sell bees as a living, I would never have sold you that nuc, and certainly not at that price. The only time I'd charge you $175 is for a 5 deep frame nuc, with the...

    Soveks 2015 Beek season.

So two weeks ago marked the start of my second year of beekeeping :D Last year I went with a top bar trapezoid design, and in hindsight maybe that want the best option. This year however, I'm still...

Or you could do what I do and not use a queen excluder... I found with my top bar that brood was limited to the front of the hive and the queen never crossed honey to lay in empty comb. In hindsightI...
