    Can't find my (marked) queen!

I decided to requeen, as a way to increase the health of my stagnating hive. Found and ordered one of the few remaining VSH VP queens. It arrived today, but I spent an hrgoing thru my hive, but I...

    Re: Making progress

I'm in yr 2. Dead out after yr 1, so started again in the spring. Mine were drawing comb in box 3, and at around 60%, stalled for 2 weeks. I started feeding sugar syrup yesterday, and it was like...

    Re: Getting over the hump

We all have our red lines. I'm not exactly the kind of person that likes killing 300 bees at a time. I'm going to have to take a pass on the alcohol wash method.
I am open to other suggestions...

    Re: Getting over the hump

So is the consensus out there a preemptive sugar shake? I personally lean towards requeening the weak Lang, Maybe switch to uniform size (mediums)

    Re: Getting over the hump

all 3 hives have screened bottom boards. I spray the grid with Pam, leave it under the screen for 2-3 days. The numbers were insignificant.

    Re: Getting over the hump

All good questions. Yr 1 I started in mid June, so I didn't expect success. Yr 2 I had a swarm (thanks to a shady local beekeeper, but that's a long story). Yr 3 I rolled the Queen in April,...

    Getting over the hump

This is my 4th year of beekeeping. I have 3 hives in 2 locations; 1 Lang deep and 1 Warre at my house, 1 medium 2 miles away (.75 miles as the crow flies).

Last year I got a small amount of honey...

I ordered from them last year. The queen was actually shipped from California. I paid for overnight shipping, which cost more than...

    Bees congregating by hot tub

Recently I have had about a dozen bees hanging out by the fold in my hot tub cover, trying to squeeze in. Do I just have cool bees? How can I discourage this behavior?

First Inspection: Queen or no Queen?

60 degrees yesterday and plenty of activity. I finally opened the hive. Top box was reasonably full, though I didn't see any brood. Bottom box was reasonably empty. I cleaned up all the sugar and...
  13. Re: HELP. Installed package, I have a dead queen. What to do.

I would also try Hudson Valley Bees. when I had a similar problem, and I exhausted all my local options, I called Olivarez in Calif. and they overnighted me a queen. The queen was $25, shipping was...

    Fine mess I've made!

About a month ago, I had a brilliant idea; Why feed sugar to my hive when I can just take a comb full of honey from my dead Warre hive and place it on top of the frames? Doesn't Michael Bush prefer...
