43 degrees and mine are doing cleansing flights. :)
Yup, they're already Mountaincamped. They've been taking cleansing flights so hopefully the cluster is able to get to new stores. We're supposed to have a 55 degree day this week and I'll be taking a...
Folks,
I've been wondering about this for a few days: I have a colony with a small cluster which is fairly light on stores (using Mountain Camp method just in case). Would there be any benefit to...
I use Mann Lake's standard 9.5" blue hive tools (HD-588 in their catalogue). Simple, well balanced and probably impossible to break on a beehive. $4.50 each for 12 or more.
Agreed. Having a partner or someone ready to get help quickly is something I always do, and I'm not allergic. If I had a reaction to a sting that sent me to the ER, I'd be selling my hive.
I'm also seeing capped queen cells at the bottom of the comb in my TBH - there's a nice capped brood pattern but no eggs or larva visible, so I suspect the queen was killed some time ago. I installed...
Thanks, I'll try them. I don't see packages on their website so they might be sold out.
A very nice lady at Gardner informed me that they're out as well. :( I might end up having to wait for the...
Will do, thanks!
Edit: Left a message for Gardner. Email sent to Koehnen's, but I hear they sell out early. Brushy Mountain is too far away, unfortunately.
I'm waiting on a package that's being picked up from Hardeman's. It's delayed until late May and since it's so late to order everyone is sold out. Koehnen's offices are closed for the weekend, looks...
Yup. I use a screen in my KTBH but the bottom board underneath is made of the same lumber as the rest of the hive. I've read that having a screen with no bottom board leads to package absconding.
I'm going to call them and see if they have any packages left to ship. I'd rather not wait until late may for Hardeman's.
I use Behr deck stain on my TBH as well. Works very well to keep moisture out of the hive.
It works, but it's slow for me. I prefer their .pdf catalog.
I believe there's a sticky about preventing absconding on BioBees...did you try rubbing the inside of the hive sparingly with lemongrass oil before installation? I'm starting a TBH at the end of the...
I've got an offset chamber smoker. They don't make all that much smoke. You'll be fine. :)

There's an ad in the For Sale section for packages in Berks county if you don't mind the drive..about 2 hours each way, though.
