I am planning to move my honey bee hive from Michigan to Texas using an enclosed cargo trailer. We have a few concerns.

So one of my hives is completely ruined by wax worms, to the point where the bees lost the battle. So now I'm left with an empty two brood chambers with at least a few hundred large, juicy, wax...
It's been really dry here in Michigan, too, and my honey supers are also going uncapped.
I want to say it's a Bombus rufocinctus (Red-belted bumble bee). It's no honey bee though.
Thanks millerwb, this is very helpful. Michigan Food Law requires the weight of honey on labels so this estimate is very is good to know. :D
Hello, I will be producing cut-comb soon and plan on using the Economy Cut-comb clamshell boxes seen here:
2356
The size of these squares are 3 3/4". Does anyone who produce comb with these,...
Thanks for the replies, guys!
Hey thanks for the referral. =D This is great! And I agree about the bees, too! There's no way Im spending $300 on a tool. haha.
Hey guys, was wondering how people typically mark their hives? What tools should be used, and what kind of information should be written?
Thats a lot of bees! Do you keep bees for both honey production and crop pollination?
Someone asked me today, an apiary that has a 1,000 colony operation, where do they keep the hives after the pollination season? I didn't know the answer to this because I've heard apiaries shouldn't...
This is ridiculous. This pesticide problem has got to be stopped. Too many are deing. Sorry for your loss. I agree with Andrew's suggestions. Good luck.
My hive did infact survive. The hive is very strong now and has plenty of honey stores. I monitored the hive closely, and if they were to look too weak, my plan B was too cover them up for a few days...
The company is called FOUNDUPS®. Here's their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Japanbeekeeping. Not sure exactly where in Japan he resides in and what he can offer.
Hopefully, your queen is...
Hi Zib, thanks for the response. That's exactly what I wanted to hear! The temperature up here in MI has been fluxuating, so I'll bet in two months my bees will have two deeps built. Looks like no...
Don't give up! I know of a honey bee non-profit in Japan that is trying to get more beekeepers in the country. Japan needs more bees I hear. After all of the catastrophic events in Japan, you guys...
This is my second year, got two 3# packages today (got stung inside my nose by the way)! Last year my bees were installed on drawn comb. This year, I am using beeswax foundation.
So I'm curious,...
I will assume then pesticide is the main problem. I will be very upset if this colony has two or more problems though. I am going to send in samples to the USDA bee lab for testing. To be safe, I...
Hi Scrapfe, I noticed that material as well on the bee but didn't think much of it. Not sure what crops may be around, maybe an apple orchard. My bother noticed a few guys spraying a garden just down...
I definitely think you're right, I keep seeing a lawn care truck drive down my steet every 2 days. Good news is, tomorrow and most of the week is rain! Thanks everybody for your advice. =)
I agree with everyone else; look for eggs and larva, it saves you time. I took a quick peek in my hive today, second frame I pulled had the queen. She's very easy to spot. ;]
There may be an apple orchard nearby. My yard has several fruit trees, including one 4 feet from their hive. Wouldn't they collect this pollen instead, though?
And I actually thought about the...
Good idea, he's always in the local paper, so I bet I can get great advice from him. Thanks!
The only smell I sense is pollen, very strong pollen smell. I don't know what's worse, disease, pest, or pesticide. If it's pesticide, not sure what I can do about that, or how to find the source....
That's throwing me off, too. Seems like mixed signs here. I contacted the state apiarist to see what he suggest I do. I really hope I can save this colony. :s
I have an update. I borrowed my brother's HD camera to keep some real close ups. I'm not sure if these wings are K-wing or not. I do have a question too, if this is nosema, how do you treat them when...
