    Re: Swarm Season Southwestern Indiana

It's getting close. Tuesday, bees in my strongest hive have draw queen cells. Nothing in them, but it's time to pay attention to them.

Re: Kentucky Beeks, what are you seeing?

Same here today. Capped brood, lavae, eggs, and some capped drone cells in one hive. Stores vary but not bad. Bringing in pollen like crazy. Good day to bee a beekeeper.

    Re: Dadant Nuc

Hey Burnette Bros. does the Dadant store have a shoe room, like Kelly? Closer to Kelly and always used Kelly in the past but they are getting less reliable.

Re: I tried something new today.

Put your punch in hot water to warm it up and punch all the way though from one side. If it's warm it will go though with no problem. Gently clean off the back side and form it to fit cell cup. Only...

Re: I tried something new today.

I used 1/2" brass ferral, 16 penny nail and a 1/4" dowel rod. I use wax to attach cell to cup

Re: I tried something new today.

I do this all the time with a 50 to 90 percent success rate. My eyes are bad too so I use a magnifying glass and light and do the best I can. Use for splits and keep the ones I don't need in nucs so...

Put an empty super with foundation or drawn out comb below them and use a bee escape.

Re: Will they recover the nectar/honey?

I would put it in an empty frame using rubber bands to hold it in place. The bees will connect it to the frames. You save the honey and the comb.

    Re: Bee Vacs

I built one like the Robo Bee Vac. Works great every time, easy to build, easy to use. Very few dead bees and any trash that gets sucked up stays in the bottom. http://youtu.be/922gkjV3iqA

    Wax question

If you use a sideliner uncapper from Brushy Mountain or a hand rolling uncapper where your not removing the cappings just pricking small holes in the wax capping, what do the bees do with the left...

    Re: Overwintering medium nucs

I had 3 single 8 frame hives that died this winter. Plenty of honey left, honey on the other side of the frame where they died. Checked them end of Jan. all seemed good and healthy. March all 3 dead,...

    Overwintering medium nucs

Anyone ever overwinter double medium nucs? I run all 8 frame mediums, and was thinking it may be better to build up medium nucs than double 8 frame hive. Easier for the bees to fill and easier for...

    Roaches

Opened a hive today and saw 4 or 5 roaches on top of the inner cover. Is this a major problem? How do I get rid of them? Thanks
