    Re: Unexplainable Swarminess

Seeing the same here. Swarm cups were getting thinned/drawn out two weeks ago, and found cells just a day or two away from capping today. We are just getting started on dandelion and sugar maples...

    Melting wax in Non-stick?

Is it OK to melt wax in a non-stick pot? I.e. will the wax pick up any chemicals from the non-stick coating?

    Re: Too late to requeen?

Look for the queen. She is probably there and you are seeing a fall brood break and possibly high mite/hive stress issues.

  5. Re: honey filtration at 100 microns - pressure or vacuum assisted?

I would just use a port and baffle on the shop vac hose, I.e. A hole to reduce suction with something to slide over the hole to increase the vacuum in the bucket slowly
  6. Re: honey filtration at 100 microns - pressure or vacuum assisted?

Why not give it a try and let us know how it works. Cut a hole in the side of your bucket just large enough to fit the tip of a shop vac hose towards the top. That should create enough of a vacuum...

    Ziva,
Can you tell us more about how these 3 hives have done for you? What management they require? Or any other details about their use?

    Varroa Xtractor?

Has anyone tried these frames? Other than the negative of cutting into your boxes I am curious of the actual functionality.

    Re: Oxalic Acid Tablets

The UK/EU companies seem to be using the tablets in the vaporizers already, so there must not be much issue with a lubricant. I briefly debated buying a DIY pill pounder, but after watching a...

    Oxalic Acid Tablets

I am looking at buying/trying oxalic acid in "tablet" form and would like feedback from anyone who has ordered and had good success with a company. A quick Google search for "oxalic acid tablet"...

Re: Digging out for cleansing flights

Snow "breathes" pretty well, and the heat from the hives had melted an inch or more around the outside edges so no issues.

    Digging out for cleansing flights

With the first days over freezing in a long time finally coming I decided it was time to check on some of my hives further from home. This is what I found at the first stop.

Re: Stalled, or other issue and how to fix it?

Well I am somewhat surprised to see it, but the ferment is pretty much done. I racked it out of the bucket and into a jug to let it clarify some more before bottling.

    Some of this batch is...

Re: Wood Pellets for smoker fuel?

Corn cob smoke has been shown to be toxic to bees (in a limited research study). I would be cautious burning other corn products as well.
