Re: How to store dead out honey?

I was under the impression that freezing it would kill any larvae from the small hive beetle or wax moth. As far as other diseases it probably ain't gonna do nothing but if it's winter time where you...

Re: Super box making on the commercial level

Glues today are great as someone else said. Do it and nail or staple too, tighter is more protection from long term weathering.

    Re: cutout comb orientation

Okay, if you say its a glimmering shine from honey, but if you count from the bottom left full shaped cells try looking at this one. Look five to the right and its capped then look at the next one,...

    Re: cutout comb orientation

Check to see where your closest Bee Association or Club is and try to connect with them. Read, read and did I mention read, all you can on the subject. This site has tons of support, here is the USDA...

    Re: Question about CheckMite +

I might add they are very good at hiding from you! But the bees know right where they are. Your point is an excellent one, just because you don't see any or <10, <20 etc.,etc. doesn't indicate no...

    Re: Wasps in beehive.....problem????

I am by far no expert, but it does seem as though the bees would have defended their home and run them out, right?

    Re: bees gone!!!

I have found that my bees won't take sugar water feeding if there is a nectar flow on. I also thought that protein feeds pollen substitutes were for spring build-ups, right?

Re: Have two hives from cutouts. Questions.

Late year cutouts are a time consuming proposition especially without the bees having adequate winter stores to rely on. Good luck...

Re: Have two hives from cutouts. Questions.

STOP!!! Don't do anything with the hive that had the maggots! Your bees absconded because they were overcome from pest (shb, varroa or otherwise) . Let them settle down and hopefully they will choose...

This year it looks like I may get enough Goldenrod honey to keep them in winter feed and still get some for myself. I am looking forward to this!

Re: Goldenrod honey smells like crap...

I've had a real problem getting my bees to make extra comb so it is pretty precious down here. I would not crush any of my comb as it does take time and energy for those bees to make it. Most BK'ers...

Re: Goldenrod honey smells like crap...

I don't think it is offensive smelling honey at all. Down South it is darker honey and does have a stronger taste. Many people prefer this honey over the lighter milder clover or privet types. I like...

Re: Hive hammered with wax moths?

I lost a hive last year because of a lethargic queen (bad laying pattern) and a novice beekeeper (me) :D, then the SHB creeped in overpowering them. It is my understanding that when you see the wax...
