I jarred some honey yesterday in handled mason jars. They DO say on the side "not for home canning", but I assumed the intent is to keep folks from boiling these jars because the glass is not built...
Beautiful pattern....I would pull that drone comb, freeze it for a day, uncap it and stick it back in the hive. No doubt those cells are PACKED with varroa.
I had the same symptoms as you about a month ago, talked to one of the honeybee specialists at the University of FL and she said not to worry...drone death outside the hive is probably due to...
Bought a NUC last week, full of bees, but the 5th frame wasn't completely filled out..in fact, there were a lot of bees on the plasticell BUILDING wax comb, but the frame was largely void of...
No, I think their numbers can support themselves through the winter but not likely a splitoff nuc. She is clipped too --- so she can't really swarm?
I----------
would burn them anyways.
I guess when it comes to the environment, I feel like AFB killing bees has a far worse effect on nature than a little burnt plastic. (Is burnt plastic really...
Yeah, my other hives are still -- umm -- "Droneright" though their numbers are dwindling!

Burn the old stuff and call Brushy Mountain!! It's just not worth the risk of AFB. I'm with Steve on the bonfire -- only make it dark 8 year bourbon!

Went and took a look in one of my hives today and noticed that they had eggs (with a not so great brood pattern), a queen, and 4 or 5 queen cells. Two of them were capped in the brood nest as an...
I did a cut out a few months ago and shottily put the wax into a deep brood chamber. Now they have filled out 2 deeps and a medium. They are thriving!
SO I have bees I need to get off...
I bought seven 4lb packages from Wilbanks Apiaries on Monday, got them home and hived them. Several bees drifted into one hive, and now it is PACKED with bees. So many bees that there is always a...
Fish, I think you misunderstood -- the drone foundation is taken out and frozen to kill the mites, but this is on the same frame as the Hood beetle trap that kills beetles.
I have been reading a little about drone foundation, and I am thinking about installing a sheet around a Hood Beetle trap and keeping all of my major pest problems on one frame that I can remove and...
I have a colony in a box I pulled out of someone's house....I searched all the comb to see if there was a queen, but didn't see one. I am not sure if they are queenless or not. Either way, I am...
