  4. Re: Here we go again.... Just a little early

The article is not real clear on exactly what was stolen. But sounds like the hives were gutted of frames and the empty boxes left. ??

Re: That phone call you get...

I run a lot of yards in the lava beds. More rock than dirt. The only way I can get a fence up is to use these:http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/step-in-poly-fence-post-48-in

    And in some...
  6. Re: Which accounting method do you run to track sales and expenses?

Regular Quicken program like Quicken 2011 works fine for tracking expenses and income for your business. Also a daily log(Word file)) that shows which truck was driven where, and what you did will be...

    Re: Closed to the public?

Bevy, my wife really enjoyed visiting with a fellow beekeeper. My extracting room is pretty tight, not really room for anyone else in there. Its just a one man band. Also every time the door opens ,3...

    Re: Closed to the public?

I was never crazy about the idea of direct selling. But the reality is: Many people want to buy honey directly from the beekeeper. So PR with every jar sold becomes a fact of life (and please take...

    Re: Closed to the public?

We are located right off a county road. No privacy here as we kind of stick out like a sore thumb with trucks forklifts and bee equipment everywhere. My wife handles the honey stand and deals with...

Lol do you have a feline infestation also??

Me too. I tell honey customers " We are having a special today. A free kitten with every jar of honey purchased!" Funny how fast most folks leave.

Re: Paramount Farms buying out beekeepers?

It looks like they just want to lock in a bee supply. They have so much more money at stake in their almond acreage, that even if they operate the bees at a loss, the pollination will be worth it.IF...

Of course they have a right to engage in free enterprise (well , maybe not in CA). It will be interesting to see what they do. Their bean counters no doubt see a way to save a nickel . Or maybe they...

I replaced the bearing in one of the extractors about a thousand lbs ago. So I just gave it a spin by hand and it spun for around 25 seconds before stopping. No roughness. Before replacement it just...

  20. Re: Bee Repel (N-butyric anhydride) and queens

Well it won't repel buzzards. Every time I brought in fume boards, the buzzards would circle low over the yard. No kidding!

  21. Re: Bee Repel (N-butyric anhydride) and queens
