  5. Re: Trapping pollen w/ Sundance II pollen trap and not affect honey production?

Was just wondering if most jarred pollen you see, is it by volume or weight. I see some beeks sell it by bag and know that is by weight.
  6. Re: Trapping pollen w/ Sundance II pollen trap and not affect honey production?

Clyde...Just curious you stated you sell by volume but how much pollen by weight does a pt jar hold?
  7. Re: Trapping pollen w/ Sundance II pollen trap and not affect honey production?

  8. Re: Trapping pollen w/ Sundance II pollen trap and not affect honey production?

Clyde do you mind sharing how you process it for market? Where you store it etc. Do you dry, freeze, shelf life? I have a Sundance that has never been on a hive...

Re: When are inner covers worthwhile?

A hive mat (depending on material) or sheet of plastic would cut down on ventilation in the summer heat vs inner cover. If you run telescoping covers vs migratory as you said, they cut down on...

    Re: Honey bound? now what?

Yes move empty frames down and work into the brood chamber and move full feed frames up. Keep the brood chamber open until they start fall preps. Notice I said move feed frames up not honey frames ;)...

Re: Can a hive be to big?

  12. Re: Ah Crap.. If my queen falls out of the hive, can she fly back or is she toast?

Regardless of where she came from, if you remain still a while she usually orients on you and will return. At least the few times I have had it happened with returned.

    Re: Help! Please... :)

If the middle box is only 30% and they are drawing it out, they are not honey bound. Honey bound is when the brood nest is full of nectar with no place for the queen to lay or you have a honey cap...

Re: bees not drawing comb on honey super w QE

No sure there would be enough red food grade dye in beets to make it red? If the honey supers are on and they are still taking the feed , you have sugar in the supers...stands to reason ... yes???

    Re: Help! Please... :)

No queen cells now ...right??? Oh yea... I have never heard of someone selling a pollen trap to someone because the bees were bringing in too much pollen? Maybe someone else has....

    Re: Help! Please... :)

We all make mistakes, it is called learning ;) If I had some empty drawn, I would give her some comb ready to lay in and some foundation also if they are on a flow and drawing. Work the drawn comb...

Re: bees not drawing comb on honey super w QE

If they are taking the feed and drawing, why would you not think it is syrup...just because you added red beet juice. What do you think, they are building comb with the honey and then differentiating...

    Re: Help! Please... :)

You need to open the brood chamber if there is no room for her to lay. If you have all deeps, the joy of that is everything fits (vs deep and mediums together etc). Move full honey frames up and...
