  3. Re: Attention NE Massachusetts Beekeepers (Essex County)

Like others I have moved hives by dis-assembling each box and rebuilding the hive in the back of my truck and then used cargo ratchet straps to hold it together while driving. Its a one man job no...
  4. Re: How long does it take a hive to realize it's queenless?

I don't know when the bees know but you will figure it pretty quick because ...trust me.. they will let you know.

    Re: Lost all 3 hives

You should leave the hives outside just close down all the openings from robbers and mice until you get new bees this will save you from the wax moths.

    Re: Lost all 3 hives

Curious how will the bee inspector be able to make a determination on cause of death now?
Were the colonies with the small populations queenless? What about moisture? Do you have pics of the hives...

Re: Make 15 year old help with sideline business?

Can't force people to do things you want them to do if they don't like it. Many will work for money at jobs they hate but not for free. He probably wants to be a 15 year old remember what that was...

    Re: dried egg yolk

You have to cook the yolk in the oven on a baking sheet on the lowest temperature for several hours or use a dehydrator. You can also buy it on Amazon ready to go think it's made by King Arthur.
  15. Re: The billion little things that make a beekeeper's life easier

I have a 5 gallon bucket and keep one of everything in it especially when visiting outyards never know what you need. The most important thing I do carry is bottle water.. I get thirsty quickly.

Re: Can you go treatment free after treating?

I can't see why someone would ask about non-treatment in a non-treatment forum and be met with replies like Beeghost's. Plenty of places to troll if your interested.
  18. Re: 1st package installed, and all dead at day 4? Why?

Sterilization through heat interesting. Bet the frozen pea sellers won't be happy :D. Imagine if it works and everyone put one in their hives it could effectively erase the mite.

    Re: Freeze warning question

SBB hasn't helped solve the mite problem for me either but during hot spells they do keep the hive cooler with less bearding and less humidity that I do know.

Re: Italian or Carnolian Queen for New Beekeepers

If you go with Carnie's and they are near Italians you have to be vigilant against robbing in the Fall. The smaller population has to work harder to defend itself.
