    Re: Installing Packages Another Way

the best way is to buy a good basic book and go by it. most people install packages and check in 2-4 days and say the bees balled my queen as I watched. the beekeeper killed his queen by not letting...

    Re: Installing Packages Another Way

seems like every new beekeeper wants to show everybody how they been doing everything wrong and a better way. lol
  3. Re: Trap out from tree that was sprayed two years ago. Saftey Concerns?

Re: What would you make of this?

not sure what the spray was but it was not roundup. we use it all the time to kill grass around the hives with no problems. If it was a contact spray no more problems would be expected.

    Re: Thanks!

I'm sure a package is not swarming. the worst thing ya can do is check on the queen. they need to get established for 2-3 weeks but every new beekeeper does the same thing and the wonder why their...
  9. Re: Bees early for pollination, how to avoid robbing

I would hesitate to tell a grower my bees are not strong enough to defend themselves. If they are good strength no problem.

Re: Moving from Nuc to Langstroth

not sure why your talking about 2 nuc boxes. I would just put them in a hive and dump extra bees out and take the nuc box away to keep them from drifting back to the nuc box. as long as the hive is...
  11. Re: How long does it take your bees to fill a 10 frame deep?

no way to know without looking. every year is different.
  12. Re: Why do swarms so readily march into a hive box??

I'm sure its not from a bee dance. It happens so fast its by smell or sound. my guess would be by sound.

    Re: queenright pollen

bees bringing in pollen has nothing to do with the queen being ok. pollen gathering is just what bees do.

Re: Alternative to smoker in summer?

the fire needs to be at the bottom. we use wood pellets with a old rag on top to keep pellets from falling out. works good and no danger of sparks.

If you talking about using 2x4's for construction its going to be heavy and worthless down the road.
  17. Re: New to South Carolina: what's blooming between May and August?

contact commercial guys in the area your thinking about. you may get some interesting feedback. lol
  18. Re: Migratory Pollinators Coming Nearby - Should I Prepare in Any Way?

I would not expect any problems. remember a commercial is making his living from his bees and if he does a poor job he would soon be out of business. the worry about being close to a commercial is...

  25. Re: installed new bees and temperature drops! how to feed them?

a 3/4" rim under the inner cover is what I would use but make sure inner cover it does not touch the bag causing syrup to leak on the bees. or a shallow super with a couple of rags around the bag...
