    Re: Nuc prices for 2016

Indeed, really not ethical. Get your bear fence up:D
  2. Re: Split hive didn't produce a queen, can i just introduce one?

I believe to much time has passed, & it wouldn't be worth the time/investment. Can you say shake out:)

    Re: Trapout Question

Guess it depends on your ultimate goal. Have you started the process, or?

    Re: after q cells capped

Surely, they are not longer than a hair roller cage:scratch:, or are they? It also insures that the first one hatched out doesn't destroy all of your efforts.

    Re: Cutout survey

The most common for me? The kind with honey bees in an empty cavity:D. Every one is unique, and homeowners always have the final say whether they want an inside or outside removal. However, in my...

    Re: after q cells capped

Hair roller cages, could give you some safety if your nucs are not set up prior to emergence.
  7. Re: Swarmed...then went back...should I split?

See you have two threads, Did you look at the bottom of the frames for queen cells? Or did you just split the boxes in half, or?
  8. Re: Swarmed...then went back...should I split?

If it was truly a swarm and they went back, I would collect the many left over cells in the box and make a split.

    Re: Quick! Opinions needed.

You can see the bees through the wall? In my experience, you will be surprised of what happens in "four days", especially if the queen was already mated when they flew in.
  10. Re: Picked up swarm. When do I look for queen?

Why? Everyone has different ways of doing things, but I do not search for queens in swarms. The status will be clear soon enough.

    Re: Trapout Question

Who's reasoning? Pretty sure Cleo's method is with the cone in the box, but we are digressing;)

    Re: Trapout Question

Why wait?, the only reason I can think of,, is to insure that there are no holes/gaps in the cone or to ensure there are no other entrances/exits (avoiding the cone). However, I have also seen beeks...

    Re: Trapout Question

You will need eggs and or larvae to begin the process. Sure you can't spare one?
  15. Re: Possibly queenless hive, what to do now?

My point is you have eggs to count, whether they hatch, break, or not:D. You would be facing another "problem" of sorts, had you demolished and acquired a new queen, that you were certain wasn't an...
  16. Re: Possibly queenless hive, what to do now?

[QUOTE=Gilli_in_TN;1406969]Getting one isn't an issue, [QUOTE]

    Aren't you glad you didn't go demolishing:eek:
  17. Re: Cant find the bees for a Cut out

Problem number 1, be skeptical of what you read:D, and each removal/cavity/stucuture is unique. I have SEEN hives in cinderblock foundation. Infrared thermal camera will lead you right to them:eek:
  18. Re: Possibly queenless hive, what to do now?

How many days would you gain from buying a laying queen? Remember she has to be introduced. You have a capped cell (that they raised) ready to hatch and mate. I would have the entrance reducer on....
  19. Re: Interesting behavior from hived swarm

Propolis, always cool to see a hive make there own entrance re-reducer:D In my experience, hives that do this will have a nice propolis amount on everything on the inside too.
  20. Re: Possibly queenless hive, what to do now?

It seems the bees has detected that her highness is not up to par. I would let it play out, especially since you already have a capped QC. Getting a mattress Q may seem like an easy & quick fix (but...

    Re: Any idea what happened?

Based on previous situations with others post this season. Possible swarm from another hive trying to take over? Virgin queen from that hive getting ready to leave? How was the outside of this hive...
  23. Re: First ever cut out ( what a mess )

What was in the cells? Adding the new box may have deterred the process, but it doesn't sound like it if there are now swarm cells, but that depends on what was in the cells & how old they are, minus...
