Probably one of the many kinds of lizard that live down there.
  3. Re: Help Please . . . post pictures of those hive stands

It looks great! That built-in frame rest is a brilliant idea.
  4. Re: Help Please . . . post pictures of those hive stands

Yeah, if you're sinking that thing in concrete it's not going anywhere. What the image doesn't show very well is that there are 2, 2x4's directly beneath and flush to the side of each hive. Plus i...
  5. Re: Help Please . . . post pictures of those hive stands

I liked that stand a lot. It was made of 2x6's & 4x4's. It could have held a truck! However, it had no footers so was top heavy. I highly recommend footers for every stand. Plus i only use 2x4's...

    Re: Second Inspection Today

How often you wish to Inspect is a relative issue. It depends on your management style. The more you inspect to more you learn yet at the same time the more you stress the bees too. Once every...

    Re: Second Inspection Today

    Re: Second Inspection Today

The frames look normal for a young package. The lack of uniformity is caused by a lack of cell availability during the first run. Once the whole box is drawn and several rotations have passed you...

    Re: Second Inspection Today

    It seems to look good.
How much of the box is drawn?
How many brood frames do they have in the hive?
Do you have the next box ready to be put on?

    Re: Yellow poplar

Yeah thats what I'm wondering. If the bees don't prefer pines would we be better off making our boxes out of a material they do prefer? Like poplar? There are plenty of cavities in pine tress but...

    Re: rewax plastic foundation

A 4 inch foam brush or a foam roller will both work well. Keep the wax from boiling. the higher heat will possibly damage the Plastic foundation.
