  1. Re: Our understanding of genetics is changing

Mike seems to have an obsession about qualifications and training. That is pretty funny since his seems to have been rather .... mmm ... informal!

    Re: Black Sugar Syrup

You could mix up a batch, let it sit overnight for the sediment to settle, then dip out syrup from the top, stirring up as little sediment as possible.
  5. Re: speed controller for a 1/2 hp Dayton ???

Funny you don't remember this from post #12, Ace. :lpf: It was the motor that quit, not the control.

    :gh:

And even though your old 8-track tape player:eek: might still turn on, you...

Just for the record, I don't mind any label that gets applied to me. :D (Just spell my name right - if you want to use a shortcut, its Rader, not Radar.)

    Re: Black Sugar Syrup

Its difficult to find ingredient information for UNFI Organic Sugar, so I don't know how it would perform as bee feed.

I found a vague Amazon reference that the UNFI product was kosher organic...
  10. Re: Ideas for "in line" filter and "automatic" valve

Well, a plastic bottling tank implies to me that the contents of the tank are not being heated. One way to improve honey flow is to warm it. Have you considered a heated bottling tank?

    While I...

    Re: The bear strikes again

Using 117 volt AC directly in a bear fence has a good chance of not being effective at shocking a bear, as well as being very dangerous to humans.

Delivering an intentional shock to a creature...
  13. Re: speed controller for a 1/2 hp Dayton ???

The $67 control that plcnut that linked to will "get him going", once wired to the motor. The extractor will then work like many other extractors in the marketplace, with a variable speed control...

The is no single Federal agency responsible for regulating "medicines and supplements" that might be used in the Bee industry.

  21. Re: speed controller for a 1/2 hp Dayton ???

I think that plcnut's $67 recommendation in post #16 will do the job for the DC motor nameplate shown in post #23.

It will work with the Dadant DC motor specs, but the speed control will be a...
  22. Re: speed controller for a 1/2 hp Dayton ???

  23. Re: speed controller for a 1/2 hp Dayton ???

While the speed control offered by Dadant is expensive, one of its nice features is that the extractor speed can be set to ramp up over the entire (possibly 20 minutes or so) extractor cycle. ...
