    Re: Useless gadgets

Unheated capping knife. I hate it. It just tears the crud out of the cappings. I did purchase a capping punch roller which worked awesome.

Frame grabber thingy. Used it 1/2 season a couple...

Vanderlean, you said you couldn't provide any pics because you gave the honey back to your bees but then you said you were going to bring some to your beekeeper friend to look at. I guess I am...

    Re: Fall flow

Looking at a forage map for North Carolina it looks like Goldenrod should have started flowing and it usually flowers through end of October/November in your area. That would probably be the major...

    Comb Honey from Goldenrod Flow?

I just finished watching Mike Palmer's lecture on Comb Honey. Very inspiring as I have tried and failed myself. But I learned a lot from the lecture. I was curious if anyone has had luck producing...

    Re: Feeling "ripped off"

That's one reason why I wait to order more than one or two low prices items. Mann Lake loves me and many others. Buy $100 worth and get free shipping. Luckily I have a Walter Kelly Dealer about 30...

Watching the bees at my home yard in Litchfield CT today coming in heavy. It looks like we have another small flow starting. The bees are working Queen Ann's lace and thistle. First time I've...

    Re: Cage fight!

That's the thing. The queen that was in the cage was marked in green. She left the cage and is now laying. Now there is a dead queen in the cage that is marked yellow. How did she get there?

    Cage fight!

So I made up some overwintering nucs and brought the nucs back to my home yard. One nuc contained the mother hive's queen. She was unmarked and was a supersedure from a previously yellow marked...

Re: FOUND! Bee Tree. Now what?

Looks like swarm traps it is. We are talking spring right? I could set them up now but it's probably too late in the season.

    FOUND! Bee Tree. Now what?

Ok so here is a little history. There have been beehives at my home yard for three years. This year I had two bear attacks so I moved the hives to several of my outyards that were fenced. I had a...

    Trapout woes

So I started a trapout on July 9th. All was going well. The bees that moved into the trap out began to make queen cells out of the eggs I gave them. They produced six queen cells. I popped my...

  23. Re: CAPA Report: 58% overwinter colony mortality in Ontario.

  24. Re: Bottom board conversion - screened to solid?

Oops sorry. No issues with hive beetles in my neck of the woods.
  25. Re: Bottom board conversion - screened to solid?

Shouldn't be a problem. If you tape a front tab on the front of the corrugated board you could pull it out as a varroa check.

I use both screened and solids and they both work for me.

    Good...
