Re: Still a newbee, 101 question!

I installed a package of Russians 5 weeks ago. They are on their 2nd deep (11 frame DE hive). Feed 1:1 sugar/water (maybe some HBH in it) until they have drawn everything out. Keep feeding, you are...
  6. Re: this is my set up. do u think there is anything wrong with this?

There are alot of people that set their hives up on stands off of the ground like yours. No problems. Tell us about your hives. Are they from a package? What breed? More info the better.

    Re: Hive Ventilation

Good ventilation is a key to swarm prevention and also to assist the girls in ridding the hive of moisture. This helps in honey curing, ect. One way to do this is to use a ventilated inner cover...

    Re: Feeding

Keep feeding as long as you have comb to draw out. Why not get the comb in the supers drawn out as well? This will help next year when you can put on drawn comb for your honey.
  9. Re: getting my first ever bees, I have a couple questions

Get a ventilated inner cover with an upper entrance and invert a glass jar with 4, 1/16 holes in the lid over the center hole of the inner cover. Use an empty shallow super over the inner cover and...

    Re: Three deeps for brood?

I don't mind the weight of the deeps. I look at the honey production, around 200 lbs per hive, of some of the beeks who are using 3 deeps up north and I'm wondering if the three deep configuration...

    Three deeps for brood?

In looking at the setups around East TN I am not seeing anyone using 3 deeps. There are some very successful beeks up north that use them. D.E. at Bee Works in Canada for one. What are the...

Re: To Feed, Or Not To Feed

Great pictures! My hive is 2 weeks behind yours. I added the 2nd deep last week. I'm continuing to feed 1:1 with HBH. If the girls have something better available (blackberry) then they will not...

Re: How often should I replace my comb?

Most of the research says replace your old comb every 3-5 years. The buildup of pestisides is a key concern.

    Re: Foothills NC Nector Flow/Dearth?
