I would still give it a shot. Melt it down and strain those babies.

I'm totally enamored by this little bee. Does anyone know what kind it is?

Re: Bees in a chimney. Seeking advice.

Dutchbee, when did they call you? Were the pics I posted of any help to you? I'm with you on this one. I would love to help, but it's just too late in the summer for me to do anything. Maybe next...

Re: Bees in a chimney. Seeking advice.

Just an update. After all the great advice received from you folks, it looks like I won't be helping these people after all. I would love to do this trap out, but just not this summer. I leave for...

Re: Bees in a chimney. Seeking advice.

Many thanks to everyone who posted the awesome info on this. I'm going to ponder everything, come up with a game plan, and hopefully take care of this over the weekend. I'll be sure to post how...

    Re: Wicked local reaction

I have pretty severe local reactions. The hands are usually the worst for me.

Re: Bees in a chimney. Seeking advice.

Beyond, Great advice! I think I'll give it a shot. There hasn't been anyone on the property to spray the bees. The old-timer wants them to live. He's called several people, though, and no one...

Re: Bees in a chimney. Seeking advice.

The only ladder available is barely long enough to get me to the roof. I don't know of any other options...

Maybe I would be crazy to even attempt this.

Re: Bees in a chimney. Seeking advice.

Scottsman, you bring up a really good point. I don't want to make more of a mess than necessary and I don't want to over-complicate things (which I tend to do.) I think I'm going to try a trap out....

Bees in a chimney. Seeking advice.

    Hey everyone.

I received a call from an older gentleman last week. He's had bees living in his chimney for the last year and would like them removed. The chimney is not in use, but he's having...

    Re: Cutout in October?

Shawnd, congrats on giving those bees a better shot at survival. I don't see how any hive could survive being exposed to the elements, i.e. our below zero/windy winters. I'm definitely going to...

    Re: Cutout in October?

Charmd, that's what I first thought as well, but the homeowner was able to capture a couple and get them identified. Definitely honeybees.

G3-That's a good suggestion. I'll probably end up...

    Cutout in October?

My neighbor's brother-in-law has a hive living under his deck. It's been there for at least two months and they're just now getting around to telling me about it. Apparently, they want the bees...

    Re: help with comb production

I agree with tmk. More than half of the frames in my hives are foundationless and, when the honey is capped, I just cut the comb out and store it in jars. It's cheaper this way, but if you decide...

Re: How to feed in a KTBH.

I built an extra follower board with a notch cut out in the bottom so a boardman feeder could fit underneath. If there is no room for that, couldn't you just put a ziplock bag with feed in it on top...
