  1. Re: Are 3 gallons of sugar water a week too much for one hive?

If they are taking it, seems to me they need it. It is awfully dry out there, isn't it? They have comb to draw and stores to build up to Winter on. If they are taking it there must not be anything in...

Re: Can't find mites in my hive

Find a basic beekeeping class and take it. Find some books to read and read them. There is no one right way to keep bees, most of the time. What you want to know and need to know can fill volumes....

    Re: Pop (soda) syrup

Caramelized sugar, aka burnt sugar, is not good for bees. Just like over heated honey. Don't feed it to bees.

Do you use a smoker? Is this your first hive?

    Re: Inpector Came Today

Oh, heck. It's your top bar hive that has the laying worker in it? Is that right? Forget about it. Leave it alone and concentrate on the queen right hive.

    Re: Inpector Came Today

Don't bother. Being where you live and the time of year, my suggestion would be to do a newspaper combining of the two colonies, putting the queenless one on top of you queen right one. Otherwise,...

    Re: Inpector Came Today

Every word in the original post was singular, but the advice and the explanation was incorrect. My assertion is the there never is just one laying worker and the idea that a laying worker's abdomen...

    Re: 5 gallons old honey

    Re: 5 gallons old honey

Maybe so. But I'd find out before giving to them. And I wouldn't give them Mead that tasted bad because of the frass laden honey it was made from.
