Permanent magnets or electromagnets?
If you learned calculus some time in the past, it comes back to you pretty fast if you review it. I don't use integrals or derivatives in my line of work so...
We don't design things to fail, but we do have budget and manufacturing constraints we have to work with, not to mention design and test schedules that can very aggressive in order to meet the market...
You have GOT to be kidding me!!!!!
This is so funny, I just have to pass it around to other engineers.
Those of us with strong allergies to certain things have serious worries about this. For instance, someone with a fish allergy could unknowingly eat a tomato with salmon genes and have a bad reaction...
I've been seeing small orientation flights almost every day. It's kind of interesting to watch them all try and fit through the entrance reducers put on for the winter season. The temperatures have...
Wow,
I'm going to have to strongly disagree strongly with you there. Engineers that have good communication skills, whether naturally or trough training, are far better at their jobs and usually...
Grafting is more closely related to cloning, so it's almost the opposite of changing the genetics. Grafting allows us to create many individual living things with the same genetics. The root stock on...
This is second hand knowledge so take it for what it's worth.....
I was talking with a beekeeper who has several hundred hives, treatment free. He claims to have only had a 5% loss last winter,...
I've noticed that when it's below 50 F and cloudy, the bees will drag out their dead and just push them off the landing board. I assume it's just too cold for them to carry off the dead like they...
I've never seen a honeybee drink blood, but I've seen plenty of yellow jackets on carcasses.
OTOH, I have seen and felt honeybees link sweat off my own arms and legs, so maybe they're after the...
Cool! I know Greg too.
He's the reason I have six bee hives in my yard.
There are only six hives in my yard, but I'm been feeding them by just setting the boardman feeders by themselves with 2:1 about 100 feet away from the hives.
There's a few yellow jackets at the...
Very nice picture of a little sweat bee.
I see them fairly often on craigslist down here in Denver. They often need to be rinsed out, but are food grade. They vary a lot in price. The lowest I've seen is $15 a barrel, but often they go for...
How close is your water barrel? I have water gardens and a plant tray a few hundred feet from the bees and they are there constantly, but they ignore the same water dish when it is right in front of...
I've made quite a few sites for myself and for others, but none of them bee related. I needed the ability to put up custom scripts for commercial and non-profit group sites for purchasing,...
It could be sticky pollen like that from Rose of Sharon. Here's how bad it stuck to my poor bees:

I love good mead. Mead, just like any wine, can be good or bad and I've had some very bad mead. But I've also had some very very good mead. Don't write off mead if you've only had it once.
I had a circular slide rule in the 1970's and knew how to use it. I currently have a linear one like the one pictured above. Sometimes I threaten to teach the daughters how to use it. :)
I've wondered about that. Fortunately it should be a very small part of the honey here.
I've also been wondering about the honey from all the garlic chives the bees are hitting up here. The chives...
I planted a lot of broccoli this year and let some flower just for the bees. The broccoli always does well, but some of it always gets too far along before I pick it so I figured the bees will use...
That it only lasted 1/2 hour and the other colony did something similar makes me think even more that it's orientation flights. They typically last about that long per hive.
The six hives out in...
I agree with Lburou. I bet you'll see it around the same time most days.
While it is not required to put out a water source here where I live, it is recommended in order to help prevent the bees from going to neighbor's swimming pools. So I can see why it is required...
