    open feeding pollen substitute

    central alabama, no brood right now?

    took a look into 3 of my 5 hives today ( sixty degrees outside and bees were flying) There were no eggs or brood. Plenty of bees. No pollen,or very little in the cells. Is this normal for this time...

    generally the 8 penny or 6 penny nails ( biggest in the packs) are for the hive body corners. I always use some sourt of glue for assembling everything. Have fun ..JOHN

    Early spring feeding. Rotate brood boxes(give em space)give them supers right when they need em. Try to grow their numbers right before the flow.

    Whats your SPRING strategy next year?

    Last spring i pushed for more bees (splits,queens etc.) This spring I am thinking maximize honey production. A winter time diversion thread? :-)

    I use upper entrances (notches on the inner cover) on all my hives. i dont think i have ever had one propolised shut. could be cause they are shaded by the outer cover or could be the climate...

    I use left over roofing shingles layered on the ground. I do get ant mounds occasionally,but this also helps with shb, it keeps them from pupating in the ground close to the hives.
