    Re: Howdy from Texas

Welcome to Beesource! Good luck with your new passion. I'm a returning quitter. LOL I'm about three years into my comeback.
It's amazing what I've learned on this website. I would not have quit...

    Re: new-be from Carpentersville, IL

We had a really pretty goldenrod bloom last fall, but it didn't have that much honey in it for some reason.
Others here on Beesource have said the same thing.
I've had to keep feeding all winter.

Re: Ukraine Beekeeper Need Your Help!

That is good advice Beepro. It is always a good idea to have them in different locations. You can hide bees in a lawnmower shed. We had a friend in the city of Atlanta years ago who had two hives...

Re: Ukraine Beekeeper Need Your Help!

    Hi IgorUkr,
So sorry to hear about your loss. How many hives did you have? If you have a few hives left, you can split properly and maybe build back in a year or two. What type bees do you raise...

Re: How much to sell honey for?

That's right. Get what you can out of it. It is time the American farmer got paid! :) My poor ol' Grandfather died a pauper in Georgia from farming.
In 1950, land was $100 per acre tops. Tractors...

    Hi VitamanBee!
Here is a link that gave me an idea.

I haven't had any trouble selling it, but...

    Re: Black bees

It's great that there are some old feral black bees around. The population has fallen. They are true survivors. We need a breeding program to preserve those tough genetics. Did someone say that they...
  10. Re: are you wondering if they are still alive inside?

Hi squarepeg, Yes. Pikeville would be my hometown. We live in Bledsoe county. Right in God's country!
  11. Re: are you wondering if they are still alive inside?

Thanks for the link to the sugar cake. Sorry trottet1. It's a good subject! I'm not a complete newbee, just a slow learner. LOL
  12. Re: are you wondering if they are still alive inside?

Great advice. Mine are light. Is dry sugar better than and entrance feeder, and how do you apply dry sugar exactly?

Re: Philippine beekeeping with native bees

Thanks for the link and the explanation. They are brand new to me. So they are a different species from the regulare honeybee, apis mellifera?
I bet they are fun to raise! I think the american...

Re: Philippine beekeeping with native bees

    Hi Apo Mariano,
I have seen other posts about stingless bees. Are they really stingless?
    Thanks!

Welcome! This has been a great place for me to learn as well. I was inspired by The Fat Bee Man, Bushfarms.com and The Sustainable Apiary by Micheal Palmer. You will enjoy learning!
  17. Re: Michigan is going CRAZY! Possible 2015 law change about keeping bees

That's what good neighbors are for! When the issue turned to being a good neighbor is when I softened my stance. Anyone would be understandably nervous to have a neighbor with 100 hives.
    A wise...
  18. Re: Michigan is going CRAZY! Possible 2015 law change about keeping bees

That's a good idea to give them a jar of honey. :)
  19. Re: Michigan is going CRAZY! Possible 2015 law change about keeping bees

I see your point Phoebee. I guess I was a little overly cautious of losing rights. We always have had to keep livestock in an enclosure. I believe in having a good relationship with neighbors. That's...

    Re: My first little harvest!

Congratulations! Natural comb too! My best tasting honey costed me 7 stings that day. For some reason it has always been my favorite. :)
  21. Re: Michigan is going CRAZY! Possible 2015 law change about keeping bees

Your points are well taken. :) I agree that moving into the city would be hard too. I think the urban-rural clash is as old as civilization itself. I lived on an acre for four years. I literally took...
  22. Re: Michigan is going CRAZY! Possible 2015 law change about keeping bees

    Good Luck to you Hackleguy,
With all due respect to those of differing opinions, I think Hackleguy is right. In the end we are all beekeepers and have a lot in common. We have to avoid the...
  23. Re: Michigan is going CRAZY! Possible 2015 law change about keeping bees

    Hey Guys,
I live in Tennessee. I totally respect the differing opinions of others on the website, but it grieves me to see property rights eroding in our country. Chickens draw flies, cows beller...

    Re: Still going...late Fall

    Okay Thanks!
I definitely will supplement next year. That was one of my many mistakes this year.
The benifits of having a thin divider in a ten frame deep are enormous!
    Good luck with your...

    Re: Still going...late Fall

    Good Idea!
I experimented with a 2 x 4 deep this year, but I had a problem with spillover. I'm sure the inner cover was not sealing with my divider.
You almost need two small inner covers to...
