This is an interesting topic.
I don't see the doom and gloom though? Paramount Farms has 46,000 acres of almonds according to a past post, this is less than 10% of the almond acreage in California....
Very well said, probably the best advice I have seen posted in while.
If the above was true you can pretty much rule California out. I don't know any package producers that leave bees out of almonds so they can shake them later, other than to start cell builders early....
Keeping hives healthy, strong and full of bees is as hard as it has ever been.
Making money with strong healthy hives full of bees is easy in todays market.
Forget the bees buy 2 Peterbuilts , 2 dropdecks, and 2 sets of nets. You and your brother could be profesional bee haulers.
Gum drops work good also.
Just open the border to bees on comb. We could come help solve some of these problems.
We are shipping now, going to start going through them on monday. I don't anticapate any major problems. We will know for sure in 2 weeks.
Boss says the spot check looks good and no one is screaming...
Open head food lined steel drums with lever rings. A lot of the new drums are light weight be careful of the light ones. Over 40 pounds with ring and lid is a good starting point.
This is what I have been hearing also.
It's hard to sell a hive before almonds for $325. It's easy to sell a hive after almonds for $150.
They will rent in almonds for $175. It doesn't always make sense but this is the way it goes.
We put an on demand propane generator in. It automatically turns on 5 minutes after it sense's no power. These are similar to what a hospital would have. Cheap insurance.
It makes my back hurt just looking at the pictures of a 6 way pallet.
Anyone traping pollen on a commercial level? If so what trap are you using and were do you get them?
Rain would be nice but a picture of you putting on sub while dressed in a warm weather bee suit like a bikini would be a great way to start off 2014. Now that would be HOT!!!![/QUOTE]
That would be...
I bought the same unit that babybee described. I had the same results as babybee described. Is this a pattern or are we just not doing it right?
I fogged them until vapor came out the lid. We had...
Good question. Wish I had an answer also.
What would the ideal RH be inside a bee hive?
I would think 40% RH would be better than 80% RH?
So if I feed Mann Lake pollen sub, split my hives before the almonds bloom, haul them from Florida and get them back to North Dakota in June ready to make honey..... I get $200.
Seems pretty simple...
Blue boxes is a Bert Walters trailer out of Modesto, CA. You need air as they have air brakes.
They are built very stout. Looking at the picture above I would suggest that you get one that is built...
How many hives are currently being managed in Canada?
I think there may be a misunderstanding. We are committed for almonds in Febuary and March.
Just so we are all on the same page.... 20,000 hives in almonds is a very small drop in the bucket. We don't run 20,000 but I can get all you want now as long as they are returned before Febuary 1,...
As for hive rental prices, don’t believe everything you hear or read. I know that if it’s on the internet then it must be true, but…. right now, I can rent you 20,000 strong healthy hives (11-14...
Sounds like good advice to me.
