    Re: Please Stop...

I'm on my 3rd year now, and have always posted my year of keeping in my sig... After seeing how a few buy bees every year, and how some sell bees every year, I found which group to follow and build...
  3. Re: So my bees did not survive the winter, now what?

I'd try to figure out what went wrong to keep from doing it again... I'm weird like that.

Re: Help lost 2 hives this winter already

I'd be happy if all I lost was two hives!

I still haven't heard what your mite counts were last year. Did you test or treat for them?
  6. Re: How young did you get your kids involved?

I bought my daughter a suite when she was seven. She loves spending time with me, and getting into hives is just another way for us to have dad/ daughter time. She always wants to see the queen of...

Re: Help lost 2 hives this winter already

What were your mite loads through summer and going into fall?
  8. Re: Kids bee suit recommendation needed please

I bought the Mann Lake kids small for my 8 year old daughter. It's a little big for her but it's the smallest suite I could find. It works fine.
  9. Re: Stupid question: how many beekeepers are scared of bees?

I've got six Ts right now. Looking to add another maybe next week. I don't like black widows at all. We are infested with them in my area. But I do like my spiders. I used to hate spiders but have...
  10. Re: Stupid question: how many beekeepers are scared of bees?

I don't like having my pants stapled to my butt, or taking a nasty sting to the forehead. But not scared of them.

Re: That phone call you get...

I'm not going to bother with a electric fence up there. I pulled the six pallets out and moved them to another location. Got home about 11:00 PM so it wasn't too bad.

Bear made a mess of a few...

    That phone call you get...

... where the land owner says "bear!" Looks like an adult trash black bear was sniffing around. Got into a few hives. The land is near solid rock. No way I'd ever get a single post driven for a hot...

    Re: Buckeye is blooming hard.

    Re: Buckeye is blooming hard.

I think it's dang near done under 1,000 ft as long as it's not on water. But around the Bay Area it's still blooming. I'm thinking the cooler air with the extra moisture they get there has it...

    Re: Buckeye is blooming hard.

If your bees moved out on the 3rd, they were on buckeye for only the beginning of the bloom. Maybe a week at most. I'd hope with that small of a window, you shouldn't see any negative affect from it....

    Re: Buckeye is blooming hard.

Well, so far so good. The bees build up has been slow, but I'm guessing it has to do with the drought.

It looks like I have one sick queen. She was moving slow and was being ignored by the bees....

    Re: Buckeye is blooming hard.

Looks like the bloom is just past half over. Buckeye may bloom for a solid three weeks. This Tues I'll be up in that yard again. I'll put on more protein patties if they have taken it all down. I'll...

Re: Best suit for extra small female?

My wife is 5'1" and 104 lbs soaking wet (she's in a 0). She can use the 6-10 kids jacket/ pants set from Mann Lake that my daughter wears. If you are a little taller than my wife, I'd get the 10-14...

    Re: Extractors

I'm looking at the Maxant 20. I'll crush and strain till then. The way things are looking, I won't need it this year. No rain. No honey. But I don't like paying taxes, so I may dump some money into...

Re: The Joy of lighting your new smoker

I have a new smoker too. The old one leaned on a deep and lit it on fire. Lost the deep, top, frames, a few jar lids, and the smoker. Luckily the deep had no bees and my truck didn't burn to the...
  24. Re: Right now is a good time to be a honeybee and a keeper of honeybees

What spring? If we had one, it's about over. With half of our normal rain, the wild flowers are about done. Blackberries most likely will have no nectar flow again. The best I can hope for is a...

    Re: Buckeye is blooming hard.

If that was the case, it might not be a problem. But these are not surrounded by ornamentals. The wild flowers are near done, black berries haven't come on yet, and the buckeye is blooming. It makes...
