I have two hives with top feeders. I have left my bees about six full medium bars of honey for winter food, after they started moving the honey to the bottom.
I know I am being a little...
I have a leftover puck of pollen from last season. I was wondering if it is safe to feed to my bees this season?
I will be getting two queens with 5 pounds of bees for both.
the pollen has not...
I was not commenting that I think heat was a problem. I was just commenting that it was a way to tell they were healthy.
I never saw any moths in the hive. A few would circle the TBH, but the...
First time keeper here. Have a top bar hive. Started with a queen and 5 pounds of drone.
All was going well. At one time I had 30+ bars of brood with honey at the top 2-3". My box was...
I was under the assumption that you didnt need to freeze honey, it keeps indefinitely. There are records of honey from egyptian tombs still being eaten thousands of years later.
honeybees have been around for 14 million years. people with chips on their shoulders wearing badges, less than 3,000. you can get as mad as you want but history is on my side here.
I laugh at the hilarity of man. Do humans ever think that species will evolve to conquer disease if we kill all infected beings? Only the people who have no authority seem to assume they have...
I really wish people didnt use photobucket. the photos are so small for the rest of us to see. picasa does it way better and will not delete photos when too many people look. sorry for ranting.
there is a saying about eggs and a basket....
I honestly have to do this every other day. must have dimensions wrong or something. my pals with lang boxes dont have to do this.
yes, make frames. I have a tbh made and the hive is growing with brood hatching already. I prefer to not move them if possible and not have comb breaking when inspecting. looking for a fix until the...
anyone ever box in their top bars? I know it sounds odd, but I see problems in my future removing comb and the extra structure should make it more handleable.
lets be honest here.
you put out a couple hundred bucks to put bees on someone elses property. if successful, throw them a bone and give them some honey.
writing a contract that would drag a...
1/2" down, 1/16th thick.
funny story...I was inspecting the hive, without a suit of course. this bee lands on my cheek. I have a knife in the left hand and a bar in the right. obviously the one...
only guide is a flat piece of wood 1/16th of an inch lengthwise.
I was inspecting my kenyan box and saw brood. If I could only get the **** bees to grow comb straight.
new beekeeper. have my kenyan tbh in my yard about 20 feet from a creek. no real other place to put it with am sun and facing south. it is roughly 3 weeks old and I started seeing bees.
I should say pulled apart and not pulled out.
thanks for the info. I went out this AM to make sure things are not fusing together. I will keep up on it every day now.
I know jadell. lol the ladies man.
Lets hope I do. So two weeks I should see them. lets hope I look early in the morning.
may want to try something like that.
how long til I see brood? I only saw honey and some pollen.
I took a warm large serated knife and went top to bottom to separate the comb.
yes the hive is level on all planes.
I took the hive apart and cut the crooked stuff off. Tied some of it back...
