Re: Control of Small Hive Beetle

All: a chux wipe is just the brand name for handi-wipes in Australia and New Zealand. Same manufacturer and look the same, although what they call a "heavy duty" wipe looks more like the regular...
  2. Re: D.E. Hives from Canada....anyone Northern Beeks have some? Do bees winter better

Interesting idea. If I understand correctly, you're just shifting the top super back an inch or so: just enough room for bees to get in. Any problems with robbing? Rain leaking in?
  3. Re: Has anyone ever tried this syrup method?

Haven't tried but the idea of chamomile and some lemon juice is intriguing.

    Re: Keeping Bees on Shares??!

I think you're being generous. Ultimately labor is the expensive thing in most propositions. I'd settle on a fixed percentage.

I'm actually going to be doing something similar. I have a friend...
  6. Re: Anyone go up against their county/city over keeping bees?

  9. Re: When a "beek" mows a pasture ... (thoughts)

Great post. One thing I've started to notice since taking up beekeeping was all the plants flowering here in town. And all the clover in folks lawns. While I have to mow the clover every now and...

    Re: Avoid Cheeseman and BeeBabys.com

Hi Nmace: Any feedback? Looks to me like a company that bit off a bit more than they can chew and sold out to new ownership. Their pricing is quite attractive, though. Thinking about next year's...
  11. Re: Whats buzzin' from Moyock, NC ? This TOP BAR thats what!

    Hi Keefis:

Lots of beeks in tidewater. Both the TBA and SE Virginia Beekeepers Guild meet in the great bridge area of Chesapeake. If I recall correctly, a whole bunch of new beeks from Moyock...

    Re: Newbee from VA

    Hi Steve:

I'm in Norfolk. One thing you might want to check out are the local beek clubs. TBA and the SE VA Beekeepers guild are on ther southside and Colonial Beekeepers on the peninsula. I'm...
  13. Re: Best Course of Action for Development Ordinances

We just got bees legalized in the city of Norfolk in October. Before that time, the local bee clubs were catching lots of swarms here. Apparently bees don't read zoning ordinances and some...
