I have had a couple of friends that wanted to have bees, so I invited them over to see my hives, explained the costs and work that goes into it, and suggested that they take the bee school that our...
I think the same applies to bees .......:D
I just saw larvae and capped brood this past weekend in central CT. It's finally warming up. I'd make sure they have enough food (and maybe a pollen patty), and give them another week to get going.

You might check into non-chlorine water treatments. My girls were visiting the neighbor's pool until they changed from the chlorine. Not sure what they are using, but they say they don't see as many...
I've lost 1 so far (out of 4), and another may be weak, but is wintering low so I can't tell what's going on. Gave them dry sugar and pollen patties yesterday. Syrup as soon as it warms up.
+1 for Wilbanks. They are very helpful folks, sent me one of the last queens last fall on short notice. I've had their package bees for years and any problems were the fault of the beekeeper (me).
Nemo brought us more snow than I've seen in a while, about 36" basically overnight. Spent the weekend clearing it out. Here's a photo of my hives - http://artisticbee.blogspot.com/

I'll second that.
I'm about as ready as I can be - everything gassed up, extra water, munchies, etc. At least if it snows a lot it will insulate the hives some for tomorrow night when it is supposed to be about 5F.
I have 3 hives of Italians that are doing the same thing, and a hive of Carniolans that cluster low. Checked them the other day and gave them a bit of dry sugar (the hive weights seem fine though)....
It's about 50 degrees here today, all 4 hives are flying. I did a quick weight heft and popped the top covers for a quick look, all seems well. (fingers crossed)
This is my blog page (which i don't update enough...) http://artisticbee.blogspot.com/
and my large format photographic project - http://thebeekeeperproject.blogspot.com/
I placed stakes behind the hives and strapped to them, then ran ratchet straps over the hives and through the concrete blocks they sit on, plus a hay bale windbreak. May be overkill, but I'd rather...
I have the same problem with one hive - the original queen went MIA, requeened but that queen either absconded or was killed, moved a queen and frames from a split into the hive last week. Going in...
I know it's probably too late but I need a mated queen, preferably Carniolan for a hive that has gone queenless.
I'm in Connecticut - anyone up this way have one?? Thanks !
I have the Mann Lake #FD-845 Pro Feeders with the cap and ladders. They hold about 2 gallons, and replace 2 frames in the hive body.
You don't have to fill them as often, and the ladder prevents...
I got a queen from Alan last Sunday. Check with him for availability.
They really like agastache "Blue Fortune", also known as Hyssop.
I just use mechanic's gloves from an auto parts store. Extra large are about 15.00 a box - (100?). Tried the dish gloves, but couldn't find
any that were not tight. Just use them to keep my hands...
I'm still waiting to put my supers on... Have some chalkbrood from the wet weather. Feeding the girls as needed. Hopefully I'll catch a fall flow.
It was this or crystal meth .........................................
