Re: Re-hiving overwintered nuc - video link

I'm not sure. Is the drivert a fondant?

Yup, those overwinter nucs can be explosive when the right time comes.

    Re: Blooms

I try to give them something all year long but esp. during
the hot summer dearth months. So here are some of the seeds I
had ordered and tried them out with success:

Re: different mite counts for time of year

Spent 1/3 of the day picking out mites with a small razor blade when there was nothing to do.
This is as natural as can bee. Of course, the other option is to OAV them. Picking them out gave me...

Otherwise, I agree with Justin. Local is the way to go, nuc or a whole hive.

Re: Treatment free, is it really that easy

I always like solid grounds to stand on, mind you.
So the ratio: 1:2:4 is it [1]x3=3; [2]x3=6; [4]x3=12, correct?
But I still don't know how to use them?

Now where can I goto find some basic...
  6. Re: Unfortunately starting over with a step ahead

    Yep, it is the mites.
The 4 queen cells was what I had. The old queen failed to keep the mites
at bay so they superceded her. The virgin emerged and killed all other cells but
    had failed too. ...

  8. Re: Replace the queen of quick and simple way : is it true?

little55, are you sure this is the right method to introduce a ripe cell into the
half? My experience with a queen right hive (half) was that the workers simply tore up
the qcell I put in. You...

Re: Treatment free, is it really that easy

That's an easy one! You nuced them all. Then combine 3 hives into one young queen. Take away the original hives so that
all foragers go into the one. Instant population growth bypassing the...

    I think I got it.
Not knowing the height and width of the bin and how you load up the bin, I would say to cover
the top half with a trap or canvas. And use wood strips to nail the trap to the bin....

It is a simple decision whether or not to feed. It is already proven. Just ask the folks going to the almonds.
If you want more bees for an earlier split then do feed. But if you want to wait...

Either relocate the bin or put a large tarp with a pulley on
to closed up the bin entrance.
  17. Re: Starting this season with VSH-Treatment Free Nuc- Some ?s

Yes, raise your own queens too while getting more VSH queens.
As your hives grow buy a VSH breeder queen. Then saturate your area
with the good VSH drones will do.

Yes, I found out that the outside temp. is irrelevant to the OAV treatment inside the hive.
I did night treatments at 31F. So the outside temp. does not affect the OAV at all....
