    Re: Pipe Removal

6 inch pipe, I would wonder if they are actually honey bees.
  2. Re: Do wild bees rebuild their hives repeatedly?

Maybe you aren't the first one to cut a hive out of there.

Re: Where have all the hive tools gone?

Put one on a rope around your neck, or on one of those spring loaded key chains on your belt. It may even be cheaper to just rope one to every hive. I have had a few hive tools go away, and I am...

Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow" - Flow Hive

I think one way or another they will be found much less expensive, either on Craigslist or in large production after the hype goes away, depending on which way the invention goes and I have no guess...

McMaster Carr is a good place to do business. I use them often and you will get the order fast.

Re: New Dadant Smoker.....inlet tube issue??

I have only one small smoker and am no expert by anyone's imagination. But looking at the smoker tube in question, I am assuming that open slot in the tube is so that embers that may come out of the...

Good info. I would like to hear more from others who keep swarms regularly.

    Re: So..what happened?

I often wonder also if there were scout bees that already determined a different location before they were hived. I had that happen once and the hive was in the area of the swarm found, which makes...

Re: Price for a rotted out hive with bees?

I sure wouldn't make any offers till I did some basic inspection first and attempt to know what condition the bees are in. I would also think there's a lot more work involved than buying a package. ...

    Re: Swarm Gathering or Robbing?

My guess is that it's just robbing. Crystallized honey would probably take a lot more time to rob out than liquid honey, if they were going after it. There's always a chance that later in the year...

    Re: Table Saw

I would also recommend a higher end saw for safer work and better quality results if you have the budget and room. I like the Delta Unisaw I have too. I have had it over 20 years and does as good...
  12. Re: Puzzling hive, possibly queenless? What can I try that I haven't already?

I am not wanting to be offensive or anything, but since I don't know you, have you done a cut out before? One thing I can think of is if you put the comb upside down from the cutout, the comb won't...

Re: First Spring Action - Fighting

What if it's bees from different hives robbing yours and squabbling over rights? I would check it out carefully. I've seen bees fight over honey soaked bowls, etc. before going back to gathering.

    Mid September swarm update

I caught a swarm in mid September last year and want to update on it. The bees filled about half of an 8 frame medium when I got them. I fed syrup on the nights that were warm enough, about 1/2...

Not the best picture, but looks like wax capping bits to me.
  18. Re: Bees with Butt's in air at entrance **VIDEO** What are they doing?

If you're concerned about robbing you can reduce with screen or use a robber screen. They do need to be able to defend their entrance.

Re: Bees like sugar more than honey?

Are you sure that the tons of honey wasn't the tons of syrup you fed them, or at least some of it was? They will store syrup and cap it when necessary even when they have stores of honey already.

    Re: Swarming???

A swarm is a good thing potentially for the species as a whole as that is their process of producing more hives and expanding their numbers, but as enj said, there are risks that come upon the hive...
