Not sure about your situation, but I've had a couple this year take off like you described due to pressure put on them by ants.
Gonna have to build myself some better stands.
I can't wait for spring to get here so we can get back to beekeeping & instead of philosophy.
From the looks of this thread, it's gonna be a loooong winter.
: sigh :
Technically, it's still fall.
Winter begins December 21st.
Yeah in front of entrance reducer.
I use push pins to hold it in place.
Even use it with Mouse Guards made of the same hardware cloth.
This is what I use.
Works pretty well for me.
Wrapped my hives today, this is the first time I've wrapped mine.
Last winter was hard. Trying to fare better this year.
I think we are in for another repeat like last year.
Good luck fellow beeks!
Personally, I wouldn't do it.
This is a big generalization, but most people suck.
There is always the chance the other beekeeper will dip into your hives if he needs something, eg: Queen, drawn...
I did when I started.
I got lucky that it made it through the winter because of rookie mistakes & pipe dreams of being treatment free.
Really if you can, start with two.
It increases you chances...
Rest easy Highlander.
Lots of KY beeks here.
Neighboring bees try to rob?
I've had an onslaught of neighboring bees trying to rob my hives here recently.
Here is a new one for me.
I was out at the hives putting on mouse guards using hardware cloth & it slowed them down enough for me to observe a behavior I've never seen before. They were hauling in...
Hard to say without seeing the hive & the activity, but just from my observations lately my hives have been under an onslaught of neighboring bees who are trying to rob. I guess the neighboring bees...
I don't mind people asking questions.
Yeah, probably everything has been asked or discussed at one time or another but this would be a dead forum if no new threads were started.
Discussion is good...
Noticing the same here.
The goldenrod is about cashed out, leaves on trees are changed & dropping, winter is right around the corner and the bees know it.
I think we are in store for another...
I used these last year.
Was separated with wax paper and the consistency I got was good.
The bees took them well. I gave a full patty at a time, unlike pollen patties which I portion control due to...
Took me three years, many dollars, & a bunch of bees to figure out that there is a lot of bad advise floating...
I use sound supressors/silencers on most of my weapons.
Legal to own and hunt with here in KY.
They are worth the bit of extra paper & wait.
They make shooting much more enjoyable, reduce recoil,...
I had a hive abscond this year due to black carpenter ants.
