Re: Hive taking a lot of sugar syrup fast

Jd'z - I have the same problem. I have 2 new packages - Italians with Russian queens - they started out slow but are going to town now. My concern is that if I stop feeding and it keeps on raining...

Re: The bear came now what?

OK I'll look tomorrow after work. I didn't look in the bottom deep - the only brood I saw was in the top super - it was just a small patch - everything else was honey and pollen - I had read...

Re: The bear came now what?

That's the worst part - we had the fence up - The question is how do I know if I need a new queen? One of my problems was trying to figure out if they had time to make a queen before they all died....

Re: Harvesting Honey from a TBH

OK, that's really cool. At the risk of sounding stupid - why are the bees less defensive with the honey coming out of a tbh than they are with the honey coming out of the langs? I am interested in...

    Harvesting Honey from a TBH

Re: Fast Consumption of Feed Syrup

Boy Howdy! You're not kidding - I'm a second year beekeeper and I just started feeding a week or so ago. I checked the hives and they seemed light - I figured the worst thing that would happen is...

Re: What to do w/uncapped unfinished supers?

I had a similar question to Soapy - thanks for asking that. My problem is similar except that I felt as if I needed to start feeding the bees thereby forfeiting the possibility of harvesting honey...

    Hello from New Hampshire

    Hello Everybody,

I live in New Hampshire. This is my second year of beekeeping. I had 2 hives last year - 1 survived the winter and I bought a second package this spring - all are buckfasts and...

    Re: Screened Bottom Board Question?

I am also very new at this but my hive survived last year by covering around the outside of the sbb with some felt material that I believe is used in roofing or something. (This was something my...
