These are good points. We have wondered about the difference ourselves here at Betterbee. This discusion has prompted Chris to ask me to look into it. ( He would have himself but he is out at the...
It sounds like you have come a long way back with this hive. I would give it a try. The big if here is the queen getting bred but I am north of you and my hives still have drones though the girls...
I am in upstate New York and my experience is the same as Libhart's with a small sample of 8 hives treated each year. Prior to the MAQS I used the Mite Away II pads with good results.
I would a least give them a frame of with eggs and larva to see if they might raise a queen even if it is late in the year.
If you find you need to kill a nest for some reason pouring boiling hot water in the nest hole in the evening will generally work.
I like the two five frame box format as suggested by Beregondo above. You could put in some uncapped frames when you pull next week or a frame or two of capped if you are lucky enough that that is...
Right you are! I had checked in the last catalog I had which is the 2011. Sorry about that. I just gave them a call to check and they said they do not carry them at this time as Global is changing...
Betterbee sells them in packages of 10. Some of the other distributors may carry them also I am not sure. I have frozen the extras and the bees will still take them down when thawed. Not sure what...
I would consider a combination of c and d. Give them some full frames in the center of the super and some empties outside of them for them to fill. You get some honey, they get some honey. If the...
If you want to use ascorbic acid it is sold as "fruit fresh"or something similar in the canning supply section of the grocery store. Used to prevent discoloration.
I agree, crack the top cover and add a super for space. I am north of you and put on some supers with foundation last week and the bees are drawing it out very well so do not be afraid to add a...

Me Beeing Me,
It is not easy. A university extension service may be the easiest place to start. There are some good web resources that you can do a search for.(I would start here...
Thanks for the link to the study. At first glance it seems very well done. My question to you is your percent infected. One of the charts list 33-43 mites in a 48hr period as correlating to about...
I give them to any hives I think can use the extra stores. I put mine on over the inner cover with a cover on. Generally remove after 2 days. They are usually dry by then with ust a few bees up in...
I agree with Peter.

When you say the bottom medium is empty do you mean with drawn comb or with foundation that needs to be drawn? For me in upstate NY I feel it is time to get the hives set up so the bees can arrange...
Here bees are coming out of the Jewel Weed flowers covered in white pollen. The stamens deposit it on the bees' heads as they enter the flower.
I don't know if it is right or wrong but I have done the same thing and it has worked out well to balance the open space in the hive and have more evenly filled supers for extraction at the end of...
When I check the bees on new foundation I find that they draw comb and start filling at the same time. I would not feed with honey supers on.
Thanks for keeping us updated! I appreciate the first hand account on this new formulation for formic acid mite treatment.
Dragonfly130, Do you have any early opinions or advise on the quick strips based on your recent experience using them?
If I understand you right you are thinking of starting with 9 frames. If you start with foundation and 9 frames the bee space is too large and you will get lots of cross comb and attached comb not...
